... Till then: How was it (or is it) on Windows? (Just to make it sure it's not a hardware issue, just for it doesn't keep, furthermore cannot apply other selected resolutions)

You don't have to install Windows, you can also try with Hiren's BootCD (though it says CD you can boot it with a usb) and start "Mini XP Tool"
