Old-ish retired engineer here. Was sitting in a meeting where I brought my old battle-scarred, heavy, and very solid 10 year old Dell Latitude E6430, while surrounded by others with mostly sleek macbooks and one Dell XPS. They looked at my laptop with a "does that thing still work?" look, while MX Linux fired up very quickly and very snappy with its SSD drive and 16G ram, and its built like a tank. It was a fun experience, kind of like driving up to a group of Tesla's with a '57 Chevy. Granted, my battery doesn't last as long and the display is nowhere near a retina display. Still, with XFCE themed out just like I like it, and as snappy as it is, its awesome.

What old beast are you proudly running MX Linux on ?
Re: What old beast are you proudly running MX Linux on ?
I was using MX 18.3 on an olde HP dv6-2130tx laptop until my dog knocked it onto a tile floor and the fan broke. I've been meaning to get it repaired then increasing its DDR3 1066 RAM to 8GB (its maximum) and installing a SATA SSD but I never seem to get around to it, now that the nearest repair shop is open again. I really need to do that as I think I'll have a need and use for it in the next few months. I love the fact that it has a nearly full-size keyboard and a 15.6 inch screen though at 1366x768 resolution.

Granted it's only used as a backup (it's really heavy and battery life is poor), but I still have a roughly 2010 ASUS X42D laptop working just fine on MX19.
It was just put to the test last December when my sis and family visited. My nephew had to spend a week in hospital and I lent him the old clunker so he could surf the web and watch youtube. Very basic tasks, nothing too taxing on the cpu or graphics card, but at least I know it can still do its job.

I have several E6430 machines, and they are great. So easy to repair or upgrade. I have two family members that run their small businesses using E6430s with MX Linux on.
I also have some Thinkpad T430 machines of a similar era that I use all the time for testing. I have a couple of XPS 13s, and although 'pretty', they don't really work that much faster than the older ones.

I have a couple of eeePC901s running MX19.
They run rather slowly with the old Atom processor but my wife and I like them for their smallness, lightness and good battery life.
Older laptops with only 512k RAM cannot run MX, but are usable with AntiX.

I'm running MX21 KDE on Asus EEE 1000HG (2010 probably; 2gb, Atom, SSD). It's more or less just a backup of a backup machine, but it's fun and has one of the best keyboards I have ever tried. Screen resolution is a bit too small (1024x600, no touch) so I had to install Plasma instead of XFCE.
Hardware doesn't allow anything fancy, but it runs (almost) smoothly - if you don't open too many tabs :)
Oh, and kids have their T440s (which are from 2014 IIRC?) running MX21 KDE

I have an ancient Dell Dimension with 512 RAM and an old Celeron processor i386 that runs 32-bit antiX - with the xfce desktop added - nice 'n' fast.
Re: What old beast are you proudly running MX Linux on ?
I have MX21 Fluxbox 'flying' on my main Sony Vaio (2010) machine, as did Debian- and MX based Xfce editions previously .
This laptop came with - and still has - an i7 (2nd gen) Cpu and with 6gb ram. Sofar only changed the HDD for a dirtcheap Kingfast 240gb SSD. This machine now has roughly 16.000 operating hours on the counter; it is running a bit hotter than it should (idling at around 50°C) and battery condition only at max 80%. But still with a deadpixel-free display and overall great performance, I'm a happy camper...

The oldest machine I have currently is the Acer Aspire V5 in my signature which dates from 2013.
HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Re: What old beast are you proudly running MX Linux on ?
the T530 in my signature is of 2012 vintage. The dvd has been removed and replaced with a second drive bay holding a 1tb spinning disk and the original spinning harddrive was replaced with a 500gb SSD. This is my main production machine, largely for the keyboard and extra drive bay. I would probably still be using my older T410 which had an even better keyboard, but the graphics in that machine do not support opengl3 which I need for some video recording tasks. Only 8gb of ram. I have built the MX isos on this machine, but I have another more powerful machine for that now, but that machine has a keyboard and port configuration that is so annoying I can't stand to use it for production despite it being superior in spec in every other way.
