I did not mention that I use MX21. Do you need more info? I use MX19 as well, but there isn't any issue with howdy.

What is the source of the howdy deb?

If you installed via dpkg, I suggest trying with gdebi or apt. dpkg does not download dependencies.

I suppose there could be some library conflict as well.

The howdy installation instructions for Debian do not mention enabling the Ubuntu ppa. Which could be your issue.

Try installing libopencv-dev in Synaptic instead of from the command line. It will tell you where the conflicts are.
BTW, MX is not based on Ubuntu. Packages from PPAs (and howdy is coming from one of the PPAs you have listed) aren't always installable and sometimes create dependency issues. We don't recommend adding them.
That's not necessarily the problem here but certainly could be.

Debian/MX almost always can't even open Ubuntu Jammy debs now, either, if they use their default zstd compression method!

OK, I understand it, but I used the deb file from github and I followed the there described method.
I use several distros among others for example Sparky too, which is also Debian based, and I have no issue with Howdy.
And the case is the same with other not Debian based distros, I can use it on Fedora, Manjaro (Arch based), Linuxlite and others.
Thank you for your suggestions I think I have to live whitout it by using MX21.

Did you use Sparky based on Debian Testing or Debian Stable? If Testing, then it will not be the same as MX21 at all. Its core packages and libraries will be different.

You could test older versions of the deb file from the github page, instead of the absolute latest 2.6.1 since that might be built more for Debian Testing/Sid.

As I did mention I use several distros, not only Debian Testing. Let's take Peppermint, I use it also, and absolutely no problem with installng and using Howdy 2.6.1, while it is also bullseye like MX21. The repos are also the same.
I tried it with version 2.5.1 as well, but no success.
Isn't there somebody who use Howdy? It provides Windows Hello™ style authentication for Linux and makes login or sudo comfortable.
