Update jackd2 and related libs for metadata support?

#1 Post by AVLinux »

Hi,

First of all, this is a Debian problem not an MX one but it is unlikely to be fixed in the lifetime of Bullseye.. so asking if it might be fixed in an MX backport..?

The JACK 2 Audio server in Bullseye is at 1.9.17 and it has a known issue where it is compiled without jack metadata support, this is not a showstopper bug and the Audio server does function but with Audio applications that support jack metadata the Audio port names are not visible. Debian has fixed it upstream in jackd2 1.9.19 so there are fixed upstream Debian sources if that makes it easier, would a backport be possible? I've checked and it is not in Debian Backports at this time.

Thanks for considering... ;)

Hi,

For reasons unknown (well to me anyway) the packager that was doing a lot of the multimedia stuff has not been heard from or present on the forum for a few months... Of course as Users we are all extremely fortunate that people take their precious time to do any packaging in the first place so that isn't a complaint, I'm just stating a fact for context. Packaging is a thankless and endless task and people can be very pushy about updates so if you're the type of person that can't say no to people it can take over your life and spill into personal spaces as well and I think across the Linux spectrum packager burnout is an all too common problem..

@Stevo to my knowledge is doing the lions share of the MX Packaging and he is already legendary for the amount of work he gets done on any given day and for the sheer amount of years he has been packaging for MX and before.. He did recently (and very generously) provide some updates for multimedia stuff but I would guess this package request either slipped through the cracks or is not enough of a priority to pursue... Maybe this bump will get it looked at and we can find out whether it's a possibility or not..

Yep, understood. Like you, I continue to appreciate the efforts of packagers, and the selfless time they put in to providing apps for us in a build format we can use.

Stevo has backported jackd2 1.9.21 and it should appear in the MX Test Repo very soon, can you test and verify if the jack port metadata function is working as expected? (I don't use anything with JACK that requires this feature and I use ALSA about 90% of the time now for production...)

I've attempted to do an upgrade of enlightenment-data, and get the following error message:

Hi,

I've noticed the same and there is some work in progress on an Enlightenment update with some recent important Enlightenment fixes but it is not complete due to some unforeseen build complications, just hold on on upgrading for now, Stevo is aware of it and is juggling a lot of plates right now, will be fixed soon I'm sure!
