gpsd is not running

#1 Post by nami »

So, i want to use a gps dongle with foxtrotgps, but gpsd is not running although it is installed without problems.

Extra information, i tried it with sparky linux and worked fine, but i want to use it with mx too.

Any suggestions please?

looks like debian's package does not ship with a sysVinit script. the easiest solution is to boot with systemd when you want to use the gps.

Thanks for the reply. Good to know...
I will probably have to use it with a remastered live usb though...
Is there maybe any other program that does not require systemd?

you could try an init script from an older version. the last time debian shipped an sysVinit script was with "stretch".

save the below to /etc/init.d/gpsd

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: gpsd
# Required-Start: $remote_fs $syslog $network
# Should-Start: bluetooth dbus udev
# Required-Stop: $remote_fs $syslog $network
# Default-Start: 2 3 4 5
# Default-Stop: 0 1 6
# X-Start-Before: ntp
# Short-Description: GPS (Global Positioning System) daemon
# Description: The gpsd service daemon is able to monitor one or
# more GPS devices connected to a host computer, making
# all data on the location and movements of the sensors
# available to be queried on TCP port 2947.
### END INIT INFO
