Installation script failure
Installation script failure
I am atempting to upgrade to 21.1 from 19.1 using the iso MX 21.1_x64 downloaded 12th June. I maded a live USB which appears to load OK with the items on the welcome screen working except for the Install.
I get no visible response but it seems to be doing something as a repeated selection of the install command reports that it is running in the background and asks that I kill it. I created a second live USB on a different stick but the results are the same.

Re: Installation script failure
Can you just do this please ? (original QSI already had these code tags but you skipped them when manually copying)

Re: Installation script failure
What about this? In a terminal:
Code: Select all
minstall-launcher
Or at least, first:
Code: Select all
sudo apt update ; sudo apt install mx-installer -y
Re: Installation script failure
silly question, but when you selected the installer on the desktop of the live USB, did you double click? I believe default usage is single click so I'm wondering if a double click would have made installer run twice, which might be causing the lack of visible response (ie maybe there are 2 instances trying to run at the same time?).
Another question, did you check the hashsum of the iso you downloaded?

Re: Installation script failure
Just checked hashsum on download which matches that given on Mirrors page.
Single click used to select install
Here is a re-run of the QSI data
I did try running minstall (rather than minstall-launch) in the terminal and got a large number of fails and eventually a stall. It was way beyond my expertise to make any sense of this!!
Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll keep fiddling with it. I did wonder if it was something to do with video drivers as my machine is blessed with Optimus and I recall some issues in the past.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll keep fiddling with it. I did wonder if it was something to do with video drivers as my machine is blessed with Optimus and I recall some issues in the past.
Re: Installation script failure
Your usb drive could be defective or dying, so try a different one.
Also, how did you create the install drive? The best chances of success lie with MX's own Live USB Maker, Rufus on Windows, or DD from the command line.

HP 15; ryzen 3 5300U APU; 500 Gb SSD; 8GB ram
HP 17; ryzen 3 3200; 500 GB SSD; 12 GB ram
Idea Center 3; 12 gen i5; 256 GB ssd;
In Linux, newer isn't always better. The best solution is the one that works.

Re: Installation script failure
For pendrive and disks checks there is "HD Tune Pro" for Windows. I don't know whether it has alternative for Linux. You need to error scan & see speed map if there is any problem with your drive it will be noticed.
Re: Installation script failure
Thanks for all suggestions from the forum. The issue is resolved although I think it may be if not unique certainly rare.I typically operate with a monitor as my working screen and keep the lap top lid closed (lack of room!).Trying to get more information on the issue I opened the lid and found an entirely different screen, and one with a working install script.
