Easy change between light and dark themes
Re: Easy change between light and dark themes
Good morning guys,
@fehlix thanks, I excuted your steps but I was wrong about the desktop file name, forgetting to add ".desktop" to the name. Very interesting and useful the step "permanent way to put......."
at this point would you like having the honor to choose the icon button panel?
Have a good and nice Sunday, here, in Sicily, is warm and sunny.
Bye

If you prefer to change the displayed icon of the "button" on the panelbalarm wrote: ... to choose the icon button panel

within the menu or on the desktop (wherever you have placed it) you can
manually change it by this:
PS: I’m sure-> Right-click on the icon-button
-> click Properties
-> click the little pencil on the right side below to "Edit ..."
-> click on the displayed Icon to select another one

but haven’t checked this.
Happy sunday!

Re: Easy change between light and dark themes

Re: Easy change between light and dark themes
This is an excellent utility tutorial, and it has come in especially handy for sometimes working outside in bright light and other times working inside in darker areas. I would add that it should be noted that in later versions of MX Linux the theme names have changed and must be updated in the code accordingly.
Great contribution!

FYI Here's a link to a modified bash magic for toggling the "Blank to" time in the Power Manager Display in Xfce.
Xfce Power Manager (xfce4-power-manager-settings) → Display – Plugged in - - Display power management - - - Blank after
viewtopic.php?p=770881#p770881
I removed the panel toggle, and used Keyboard → Application Shortcuts – Alt+B
Also, some other methods that would work – maybe avoid the xml files method, according to DO.
Works great!

Re: Easy change between light and dark themes
This is such a cool idea, because after a new installation of MX Linux I forget how to change the theme. For this I've created aliases to solve this problem forever:
Code: Select all
alias theme_dark="xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Net/ThemeName -s \"Arc-Dark\""
alias theme_light="xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Net/ThemeName -s \"Greybird-mx17\""
Re: Easy change between light and dark themes
In MX-tweak [for XFCE], isn't there a way to save theme sets [gtk theme plus icon set], which you can then apply as and when you want?

Re: Easy change between light and dark themes
Yes, MX tweak | Themes. you can save your current, and use / restore from there as well.
*QSI = Quick System Info from menu (Copy for Forum)
*MXPI = MX Package Installer
*Please check the solved checkbox on the post that solved it.
*Linux -This is the way!

Re: Easy change between light and dark themes
I don't see anything in mx-tweak, but this might be, because I am using i3wm. So if I forget to change the theme at the very first startup in xfce, I need a workaround. But the aliases might work.
Re: Easy change between light and dark themes
xfce theming won't show up mx-tweak if you are using another window manager/DE
