Weird double login screen every restart

#1 Post by bitsniper »

Hello, friends!

Some time ago I started to use MX Linux, and, of course, facing some problems as far as my requirements for the system is quite specific. 9_9

But most of the problems I have solved for now, except a couple of them. And the main thing that annoying me in user experience is that every time I boot the system one weird thing is happening.

If my init is SysV with every of few installations attempts I've made for my laptop behaving this way. I have no password on logon, that's why after I see login screen animation I see desktop environment. But in about 5 seconds after I see black sreen with the blinking underscore and then login animation again. :spinning:

So, this happens with every reboot, and quite annoying. I've made some reasearch on the web few times, but couldn't find anyone with the same problems.

Please, help me to figure out what is happening and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance! :loungingaround:

Thank you for your attention on my topic. ;) I've read through that page, there is a little clarification of the reasons, but, unfortunately, no solutions. 9_9 9_9 And the author decided to switch to shits'd, lefting the problem unsolved.

Keeping up searching for remedy. :crossfingers:

Hello, <username>!

Finally I've found the solution for this, thanks to dolphin_oracle. Here is it:
dolphin_oracle wrote: Tue Apr 05, 2022 8:46 pm well, you can do this.

Code: Select all

sudo apt purge sddm-modified-init
sudo apt install --reinstall sddm
that will remove the double start, but the shutdown/reboot buttons on the sddm screen will not function (this does not apply to the regular shutdown/reboot/logout screen from with plasma though, those still work fine).
