Bulk renaming files and folders

I have used the terminal command thunar -B for some time to bulk rename files. I recently needed to bulk rename folders (re-organising my 12,000 photos) and found that I could not select folders, only files.

The solution is to use the alternative method of invoking the bulk rename function - select two or more folders in Thunar, press F2 and edit. It's very odd that this works, since both methods access the same function.
