Package request - Thunderbird 91.5

#1 Post by DeepDayze »

Hello:

I have checked all the repos and as Thunderbird package that's available is rather old (78.14 in MX Testing Repo). Can the newest Thunderbird 91.5.0 be packaged if possible? Also willing to test the completed package.

Cheers,
DD

people can do whatever they want, but keep in mind that Debian has tweaked updated that version of Thunderbird like 4 times in the last 3 weeks to get the builds right

users should know that switching up versions could lead to bugs or lots of updates as this package stabilizes upstream

there is a reason Debian is keeping it as a separate version rather than forcing the replacement of 78 to 91

creating a MX Snapshot, Timeshift snapshot, or just general backups should be done before switching to roll back if needed

its being pushed out in deb security. our package version prevents the auto-update.

tracking, I was more referring to folks who decide to manually update using Synaptic

there are bugs being filed now that version 91 is rolling out more and people are testing, as they fix them it means more updates

I had a few extensions stop working when I tested 91.4.1-1~deb11u1, it doesn't look like the fixes have made it yet

Maybe offer this package in MX Testing for those who are brave enough to try it out? I have used TB 91 on a Buster based distro and had no issues with it and only one extension installed.
