Re: can MX devs fix package installer for kernels ?
4.9 kernel install works fine on mx21. the intsall will take a long time because there are a lot of dkms driver packages to rebuild. on a pentium 4 it could take a very long time. if you don't need them, I suggest removing the dkms packages (broadcom, rtl, etc... anything that ends with -dkms)
on your side question: its apples and oranges. ddr2 ram is ram, and HDD is a spinning hard disk. both are used, but if you are asking if the live system will run faster in ram, the answer is yet it will, but you need a lot of it to run MX. antix would be better suited for a pentium 4 class machine, and even then you will need significant ram to utilize things like firefox.
as I recall, the debian standard kernel on MX18 is the 4.9 kernel, so you would just install the debian kernel.

I just checked, and on a fully updated 18.3 install the debian 4.9 kernel appears to install fine.

Why are you showing a Firefox browser? Use MX Package Installer to install it.

If you are referring to antiX kernel then the reason is very simple -we are a tiny team compared to Debian.Touhami-Dz wrote: Fri Dec 24, 2021 5:19 pm anyone knows why dont they upgrade ther kernel in repositories to 4.9.294 just like kernel.org ?

you need to run all updates first to get the repo keys. the keys on the iso are expired, but they were updated.
at any rate, the debian 4.9 kernel that I recommended is available and it installed fine.

Maybe try mx fix gpg keys to see if it will fix the repo gpg key error.
If that does not work try the solutions in here: https://antixlinux.com/expkeysig-error-and-fix/
Afterward try installing the kernel again. It seems to be causing an error due to incorrect gpg signing key error.

Re: can MX devs fix package installer for kernels ?
i messed up the repos on the virtual and i made another fresh install (just to be sure cuz i also want this post to be a reference) but this time
this little box in the pic is white

i assume now i dont have to sign the repo manually right ? cuz the error is different (unable to locate package) does this mean that the kernel is not in the repo server
sry im noob -bear with me-
@anyon if u dont have time dont read blow
extra question : does antiX work better on (pentium 4 3.2 ghz) than MX 18.3 if let's say i use the same excat desktop environement and all options and themes are the same ?
note : i tried to install xfce on antix 17.4.1 64bit with antix package installer but it looked weird so i switched to MX cuz antiX is not rly newbie friendly
i am asking this to know if it's worth to go install same version of DE that mx has on antiX manually cuz in pentium pc 1 gb ram every little thing can matter ang give better preformance / experience
