Mouse settings break media keys on keyboard

#1 Post by radonrose »

Leaving this here in case anyone needs it:

I had to temporarily replace my mouse with a different one, and because the new one only has two buttons, I was messing around to make it more comfortable.

In XFCE's Mouse and Touchpad settings, four devices were listed. My old mouse, twice. My new mouse, once. And a device named "USB usb keyboard Consumer Control". While I was trying to setup the new mouse, and troubleshooting what's wrong with the old, I switched the usb keyboard off from those settings, and the media keys (XF86) were all gone; not registering any input in anything else than showkey. No xev, no remapping them from inside the Keyboard settings, nothing.

If you ever come across a similar issue, take a look at your mouse settings and how they interact with your keyboard.
