Woeusb

#1 Post by Eadwine Rose »

I wanted to make a Win10 USB for my dad, he doesn't have the media to reinstall (was ready installed on laptop) and getting him to download and make an iso is like pilling a cat.

I have this in my notes files from MX19:

"Start MX Package Installer and find woeusb, install"

Yeah.. I cannot find it in MX21 MXPI in any of the tabs. I would like to put a request in for woeusb, please? It used to be in MX19, is it possible to bring it in to MX21?

Thanks for the link, it throws dependency errors, so I think I'll wait for our great ones :)

If you are impatient for Woeusb and have access to a Windows computer, below are two procedures (more like a short list of links to instructional articles or videos) for making a Windows 10 installation USB stick (needs to be at least 8 GB, I think). Basically you can use the Windows Media Creation Tool or the Rufas app to make the installation USB. Since your father's computer came with Windows installed, it should automatically pick up the product key for activation.

How to use the Windows Media Creation Tool to make a Windows 10 installation USB:
How to install Windows 10 from USB with UEFI support (by Windows Central)
This article has three procedural sections for how to make an installation USB. The Media Creation Tool is the first section, "How to create Windows 10 UEFI boot media with Media Creation Tool", steps 1-14.
The following YouTube video has the same information with a few missing steps from the above article that experienced Windows users don't need.
How To Upgrade to Windows 10 For Free !! Make Create Windows 10 Install Installation Media (by PC Monkey)

How to use the Rufas app to make a Windows 10 installation USB stick:
Go the the first link above, the article by Windows Central. Scroll down to the third procedural section, "Create boot flash drive downloading Windows 10 ISO", steps 1-35. Note - the USB drive you create does not include a digital signature for secure boot, so you must temporarily disable secure boot on the motherboard firmware before you can boot into the setup.

For details on how to install Windows 10 from the USB stick you created see the following YouTube video.

Hope that helps someone, if not you Eadwine Rose.
