Setting Workspace Number

#1 Post by dbvolvox »

Very pleased with MX-21 and latest fluxbox, thank you all. I like to have 4 workspaces and it has taken me an age to find where this is set. (I have searched !) So for the benefit of others you need to edit the file /home/user/.fluxbox/init and change session.screen0.workspaces: 2 to the number you want, 4 in my case.
Then I edited session.screen0.workspaceNames: 1, 2, 3, 4 Don't forget to Save!
Enjoy, David

Fluxbox also provides a nice graphical interface from the rootmenu to add/remove/rename workspaces on the fly.
Just add following line in your rootmenu (~/.fluxbox/menu-mx)

Code: Select all

[workspaces] (Workspaces)
It will show you the running applications per-workspace too

Thanks, I have added that and it is good. From my point of view it would have been better if this was in the menu by default. Is there a list of things that can be added in this way? I am wondering what else would enhance my UX?

I might add it next time, though it would mean redoing the translations which is a lot of work. The shortcut I mentioned above is listed in the keys file--along with a lot of other stuff that you might want to take a look at if you haven't already.

No list from us, but have a look at the resources at the end of the MX-Fluxbox documentation (question mark icon in dock, Help in rootMenu, Ctrl + F1).
