@fehlix
I almost always re-label in Gparted to differentiate and I am aware of the Grub menu from very recent experience.

But, I'm not too concerned with pretty names as I'm more concerned with functionality - as long as it works.
Originally, I thought it may be a bug, and I also thought that the distro entry in the /boot/efi/EFI and the username in the /home directory should be deleted when removing distros, that's one of the reasons that I wanted to differentiate. Also, I thought this may mix things up, similar to using the same usernames.

Currently, I'm just playing and will eventually figure out which distro(s) and versions I want to run. I'm going to have MX, because I love the newer packages in MXPI Testing, and Backports with the stability of Debian, but Mint works perfectly OOTB - particularly for the complete newbie laptop recipient.

So, sorry that I wasted you time with your kindly offered workarounds. :smile:
But Thank You, and I'll keep this in mind.

Reported as potential issue, I'm not personally looking for a fix - I can live without it,
as I'll not normally have two MX distros installed at the same time, but....

Two distros installed:
Installed MX21-Xfce 1st
Installed MX21-Xfce-RC3-AHS 2nd

I can login to the last install - Xfce-AHS.
I can not login to the first install - Xfce.

I encountered this previously, but I reinstalled both distros to be certain that I didn't simply forget my password.

I get an error that is something like this:
ACPI BIOS error (bug) failure creating named object [\SMIB], AE already exists
ACPI error: AE not found, while solving named reference packa
Enter password for maintenance
Press Ctrl D to continue.

Hitting Ctrl D takes me to the login screen, but the password is not recognized.

I haven't tried fehlix's workaround, again not personally concerned.

@MXRobo something similar happened to me. If you can log into the newer install, from there, mount the older one, and check /etc/fstab . When you installed the second one, its UUID may have changed.

High CPU usage from Xorg

With Mx Linux, the CPU usage by Xorg is about 30%. With Pop Os, with the same hardware, the usage is about 10% or slightly less.

The script below runs automatically at the start of the session (sometimes it fails, and I run it in the terminal).

Code: Select all

#!/bin/bash

xrandr --setprovideroutputsource NVIDIA-G0 modesetting

@davemx
Thanks for the info. I have since removed and reinstalled one MX only, but I'll keep this in mind.

With Mx Linux, the CPU usage by Xorg is about 30%. With Pop Os, with the same hardware, the usage is about 10% or slightly less.
Interesting, I haven't seen Xorg sucking up that much resources constantly on the two systems I'm running MX-21 AHS RC3 on, but I'll take a look next time I'm messing with them.

Hello,
Will the MX21-Xfce-AHS final will have the 5.14 kernel or the 5.15 kernel as the default kernel,
or are you not disclosing that yet? My primary question is about the kernel, not the disclosure.
And, as I understand - 5.14 is not LTS, but 5.15 is LTS or will be, is that correct?
I wait with "baited" breath. :bluefish:

I don't know really, I messaged dolphin_oracle about that, but haven't gotten back on our Dev Slack channel yet as I'm testing some other things under another AHS RC install.

Personally I would prefer to go to 5.15 because it is an LTS and because to hopefully fix potential issues some users are having with 5.14.

I've been monitoring xorg usage since you're post, I've not seen it go over maybe 4-5% without having a bunch of things open or something doing a lot of work.
This is on a all AMD system and an Intel small board computer, so I can't verify there isn't a issue with systems similar to yours.
