All good. happy to test and give feedback if needed.

I've been trying to narrow down the TLP battery issue. With MX19 it worked fine, even booting into other distros it held. But now, even devuan/artix/gentoo wont change it either! It's almost as if something has locked the settings.

Another problem with the MX21-ahs-RC1. I've got an external USB-3 powered DVD Recorder/Player and I can play a video DVD in it using MX21-KDE-RC1 and vlc, it works perfectly. But in the ahs/xfce version, nothing. When I put in the DVD, there is no response and vlc cannot find it. This is with both sys-v and systemd. My hardware printout is at reply #46 above.

for those with suspend issues, please try the linux-image-5.14.0-3mx-amd64 kernel now in the ahs repo.

@davemx so the only thing different between MX-21 KDE RC1 and the Xfce AHS RC version is Xfce and the kernel.

Does Thunar detect the drive at least?

Does it show with the lsusb command?

I have an external USB DVD drive somewhere I can test with.

BOTH ISSUES:

This is weird. I updated the kernel in the hope of fixing the suspend issues, but it made no difference at all. But now the external DVD is working! It showed up in both Thunar and vlc, and sometimes in the MX-unmounter — when it doesn't, right clicking on the MX-unmounter icon in system tray, and selecting List Devices, then brings it into the MX-unmounter list. May be some kind of co-incidence.

Since SDDM had to be hacked to work correctly without systemd, perhaps gdm has to be, too? The top 1/3 of the screen, looks like a re-arranged version of the gdm screen.

Can you please clarify, this is the second time you’ve said GDM. You should have LightDM as your QSI shows, unless you changed something.

MORE ON THE SUSPEND ISSUE:

It's a display issue, for sure. I suspended the computer again. When it came back to the re-arranged LightDM screen, I pressed CTRL-ALT-F2 and logged in as root (fortunately I had created a root password at install). The text screen was readable though it was shifted to the right. I typed in the command "pm-hibernate" and the computer halted. On restart it came back to the same root text screen, but now it was in the right place. I pressed CTRL-ALT-F7 and my desktop was there!

... oh and sorry, I meant the standard DM used, if that's LightDM. I haven't changed it.

@davemx what kernel did you upgrade to.

I think when the display driver crashes, lightdm reverts to resolutions provided by the framebuffer of the hardware. On my laptop, that is a fairly low resolution and lightdm shows up larger than the available display, so most of my items push off screen.

Installed on home built PC with Intel G4560 CPU , AMDRX560 graphics card , all good so far..
Usb dongle Wifi on Realtek chipset works out of the box ,yay !

Though strangely, my older USB Netgear adapter WG111 v2 says "Internet now disconnected"
when i try to connect ,similar to that T-mobile 3g dongle error i used to get when connecting.
First time i've seen that with a proper net wifi dongle.
That's the old adapter i normally use on linux when the Realtek doesn't work.
Doesn't matter too much as Realtek is working ok now.

I have an external USB DVD drive ,just tried playing Sin City movie and it seems to play ok via VLC (USB3 +USB2) ,just have to select dvd in the VLC menu..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just plugged in some different USB TV dongles ,tried with a kaffeine install.

Astrometa USB TV dongle working ok , seems to have the full driver/firmware in the OS ready to go ,great news.

Just got the XboxOne USB TV tuner working ok as well ,all channels ok from Crystal Place UK London transmitter.
Seems to have the firmware ready to go apart from one file missing.
Plug in the dongle and if you get this error:
"Direct firmware load for dvb-demod-mn88472-02.fw failed with error -2"

Then run these 2 lines in a terminal:
wget http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmw ... 8472-02.fw
sudo cp dvb-demod-mn88472-02.fw /lib/firmware/

Channel scan in kaffeine working ok straight after adding that firmware file.
Source (about a third of the way down page):
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2336566
Watching BBC news atmo.

That's good news, 2 USB TV dongles working with next to zero issues.
I'll try my 3rd Avermedia USB TV dongle tomorrow.
edit:
H831 Avermedia Hybrid Volar T2 does not work on linux !

Forgot about that ,it's never had support on linux.
Good tv dongle but only for Windows.

kernel = 5.14.0-3mx-amd64

I've changed the settings so that on return from suspend it skips LightDM and goes straight back to the desktop. The desktop is all wrong. The bottom 2/3 is just black, and in the top 1/3 there are two oblong shapes flashing. Could be alternate lines of the intended desktop display. It's as if it's displaying via the wrong desktop settings, and if there was some way of correcting that, it would solve the issue.
