What dodgy files you have got hiding in your trash that you don't want the police looking at them?
The correction is fine by me, I just felt prüfen might imply check if it's working rather than check what's in there.

I understand what you mean about the ambiguity of "prüfen". But "kontrolliern" also can be misunderstood, like "to get it under control". Really not an easy translation. Of course, one could go with "Papierkorb-Check", but I'm not sure if I like that one better than the alternatives...
