Its not like this feedback is being ignored, but right now there are bigger priorities than fixing workarounds for workarounds.

In fact, these things are better addressed at the root of the concern so that a good long term solution, rather than workarounds that constantly need attention. MX Linux isn't going to change Xfce as a whole, but our users can voice their opinion where it matters, at the Xfce level.

Yes, I'd read about gtk3-nocsd causing a variety of problems in 21, which is why I won't be installing it. And of course I understand this is an XFCE thing, not one created by MX, so my remarks weren't meant to be critical of MX. And let's face it, it's not a deal breaker by any stretch of the imagination, especially in a distro like MX which has so much good stuff to offer. And anyone who can't live with XFCE 4.16 can of course stay with MX 19 for three more years by which time, judging from the XFCE forum you provided the links for, they may well have added that opt out toggle anyway.

I've read the continuing saga of CSD and have even posted here about it when I couldn't find the option to turn it off, which was much appreciated early on. Given that the nocsd options are work-arounds that cause problems, I've decided it's time for me to move on and live with CSD when running XFCE on the desktop. It's baked into the pie. Why ask for problems.

I have a suggestion. Users wanting a more traditional no CSD option desktop, even lighter, and competent, might consider installing LXDE via MXPI. It's a very small DE, usable out-of-the-box, and easy to configure and make quite beautiful. I use it under 19.4, betas, and RC1 and vouch for its goodness.

Yeah, I was aware the option still exists. I tried manually installing it in RC1, and it still made everything look weird, so I decided not to use it, same as I decided in beta2 after trying it. Truthfully, the only time it draws my notice or bothers me at all is when I open the System Settings window or any of the Settings dialogs. However, when it does bother me, it bothers me a LOT.

Nevertheless, I understand and respect your reasons for not making it a priority to fix, because in the grand scheme of things, it truly is not a critical bug. I can make my peace with it if I continue to use XFCE, or I may just switch to Cinnamon (which has always been my favorite desktop, regardless of XFCE's relationship with CSD). I'm aware that KDE has similar functionality to Cinnamon, and is officially supported by MX; I tried it and found a lot to love. Unfortunately, KDE Wallet doesn't work with Protonmail-Bridge, gnome-keyring is to hard to make work in KDE, and pass has to be manually unlocked after every login. Therefore, KDE is not a viable option for me right now.

I actually tried LXDE last year on MX-19.4 because I was curious. It definitely lived up to its reputation for lightness, however I found it to be a bit too bare-bones. I especially missed having a comprehensive Settings Manager. Of course, MX Tools picked up a little of the slack, but it's not a complete stand-in, as it was designed to be used in concert with XFCE Settings Manager, not on its own. However, I might give it another chance. And I'm certain that other users will find it to be a perfect (or at least close to perfect) substitute for XFCE. Thank you for the suggestion, @figueroa .

MX Linux XFCE RC1

Looks fabulous, love the icons, wallpapers and theme, I am using MX Comfort Dark.

Fast, uses 6% memory, roughly 600 Mb's and just 1% CPU on boot.

All my favourite programs installed fine along with NVIDIA drivers.

The software I like to use - Firefox, Asunder, Sound Converter DeadBeef, Gimp, DarkTable, Rapid Photo Downloader, Steam, Lutris, Chromium BSU, 0AD, Gnome Chess and Mahjong. Most are the latest versions.
