Avidemux Video Tool?

#1 Post by AVLinux »

Hi!

This is a big ask but this is an extremely powerful tool for working with Video professionally and for doing stuff like separating Audio and Video streams and putting them back together in pretty much any common format. I have put it in AV Linux (now AVL-MXE) for years and simply built it from the Deb build script in the source code but I think it would be of wider value in the MX Repos. It requires one dependency outside of Debian which is 'libaften' which is a library to encode and decode DVD '.ac3' Audio streams. libaften is packaged by Christian Marillat in the deb-multmedia Repository for reference to a Debianized package..

Libaften Deb-multimedia: https://deb-multimedia.org/dists/stable ... /libaften0

Avidemux source page: http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/download.html

As I mentioned the Avidemux source code has a Ubuntu Deb building script that builds on Debian systems as well, hopefully this would be helpful in streamlining creation of Debs for MX..?

I know with MX-21 you guys have a LOT on your plate, this is not a rush job but I'm posting it here to get it on the list.. If there are any other MX Users doing Video work maybe post a comment here to let the MX Packagers know how much actual interest there is in getting Avidemux into MX (outside of AVL-MXE).

Acknowledging the request, it’ll be a bit before I can mess with it. Plus, technically, you hit your packaging quota this month already. :p

Hello. I also join this request. I'm using Avidemux very often. It's very useful.
But: is it possible to have Avidemux with fast gpu NVIDIA encoding like on Windows?

Probably not quite what is wanted, but Avidemux is available from the Package Installer as a Flatpak.

Relooking at this request and trying to remember what and why there would be issues porting this from the Deb Multimedia Unstable Repo. It’s gonna be some time before I can even look at it more as there are things I want to finish for MX-21 release.

@Stevo is there any reason we weren’t packaging this already?

It's not in Ubuntu or Debian as some of its mp4 code still violates software patents, at least the last time I looked. A few years ago, it was safe to add deb-multimedia just long enough to add it.

Nvenc support is dependent on building ffmpeg with support for it, or at least an internal version of ffmpeg for an app with support.

That's right, we need to rebuild or update MX 21's ffmpeg with the same nvenc support. The thing is, I think the later the nv-codec-headers (? something like that) we port over from dmo to build against, the newer drivers they may require and support for older devices may be dropped. I suppose we could ask Christian at dmo about that to make sure.

Does the same go for DVDStyler? Just wondering, as I saw that one was no longer in the MXPI Popular tab on 21, but it is available through deb multimedia.

Hi!

Flatpaks or AppImages are great for the end User but I want to distribute this on an ISO and Debian Packages are much preferred, as I said it's not an emergency because I'm currently building my own Debs for the ISO and have been for some time. I just thought I'd suggest it for the MX Repos with the other recent great multimedia additions but certainly no need prior to MX-21 and as @SwampRabbit has said I've certainly received more than my quota already for MX-21.

We could probably get away with building and hosting a repo for Avidemux on the OBS, but again, not in the MX repos.
