It would be nice if MX Tweak in Xfce would have feature parity with MX Tweak in Fluxbox. Jerry showcased the input driver selector for touchpads and mice, but it isn't available in MX Tweak for Xfce.
It looked like the MX Tweak version in Xfce was old (spring 2021) so I guess it hasn't been updated in a while.
Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

the driver selector is present mx-tweak. its the same app. but it only will be present if a touchpad is found. it doesn't touch the mouse drivers.

My current feel/preference is to keep to the current docklike settings for indicators, except that we have the focused/active window 's indicator be set to orange, to differentiate it from the other opened but not focused groups/windows, which stays as blue in rectangle style.

Then I still hope to get the hover effect in css though, but that's it, no css for active or opened groups. Though I'm not sure how yet.
Hmmm, I don’t know how to get focused/unfocused piece set in the rc file, but can look at it.

I agree with your thinking though.

Just let me know how you want to proceed, I need to update docklike soon anyway… I’ll hold off until we know what we want in the rc file.

@Eadwine Rose I’d have to look if it’s even possible and patch that change in . Can look though.

@dolphin_oracle I’ll do the big report here in a bit.

Change the colour of active window in the graphical settings window and see how the config file in home changes? That should help establish what to change in rc file in skel?

Don't wait for the css thingy, I'm stumped right now and don't have much time to work on it this coming week.

9_9 think I confused myself with what you were asking before with the active, focused, groups, styles, blah, blah, blah :footinmouth:

But you're looking for something like this?
https://imgur.com/a/pwJO0Pb

I think that blue is too bright, it might confuse users, I dunno... maybe a subdued blue and a semi-bright orange.

If you have specific color codes you want to use for the theme, please PM me, and I'll prep it tomorrow cause I want to package a newer version sometime then.
And try to get somewhere with that other package we talked about that you wanted. ;)

Yes. But note the default indicator style in beta2 is rectangles, not bars, and I prefer rectangles as it's more subtle.

colour codes, orange is just the 2nd orange from the top of the colour chooser dialogue: #FFA348
ksnip_20210917-135400.png

inactive blue is the default blue for both active and inactive windows in beta2: #4CA6E6

Don't think the blue is too bright, but that's subjective. Ignore the long bar on the left, that's the css active code I was testing.

What other package? I can't recall.

Hello,

I apologize for posting my viewtopic.php?f=108&t=66399 topic in a wrong thread. :duh:

In the meantime I solved it by manually chroot-ing into degraded raid-1 array and updating grub config file...now everything is OK and MX-21 is happily booting and using all my raid-1 array. :happy:

I'm so pleased with this distro...but it deserves another post in "testimonies". :number1:

There is one problem I have spotted in beta2 and that's it that changing my 'locale' does not work. Here is the current output:

Code: Select all

$ locale
LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=en_GB:en
LC_CTYPE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES=en_GB.UTF-8
LC_PAPER="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_GB.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=
although I selected hr_HR.UTF-8 as default locale for my system environment. Moreover, I tried to change it with:

Code: Select all

$ update-locale LANG=hr_HR.UTF-8 LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8"
and here is the content:

Code: Select all

$ cat /etc/default/locale
#  File generated by update-locale
LANG=hr_HR.UTF-8
LANGUAGE="en_GB:en"
LC_MESSAGES=en_GB.UTF-8
but it looks that MX, somehow, does not take it into account?

What do I miss?

Here is my config info:

From the menu, system locales. Does that work?
MX-23.6_x64 July 31 2023 * 6.1.0-35amd64 ext4 Xfce 4.20.0 * 8-core AMD Ryzen 7 2700

Nope, but I launched:

Code: Select all

$ sudo update-locale LANG=hr_HR.UTF-8 LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8" LANGUAGE= LC_CTYPE="en_GB.UTF-8" LC_NUMERIC="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_TIME="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_COLLATE="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_MONETARY="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_PAPER="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_NAME="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_ADDRESS="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_TELEPHONE="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_MEASUREMENT="hr_HR.UTF-8" LC_IDENTIFICATION="hr_HR.UTF-8"
and got:

Code: Select all

$  locale
LANG=en_GB.UTF-8
LANGUAGE=
LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_TIME=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_COLLATE=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=en_GB.UTF-8
LC_PAPER=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_NAME=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_TELEPHONE=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_IDENTIFICATION=hr_HR.UTF-8
LC_ALL=
which means that LANG variable is still not picked/set by the script?

Let me add that on Debian (sid) it was always enough to just use:

Code: Select all

$ update-locale LANG=hr_HR.UTF-8 LC_MESSAGES="en_GB.UTF-8"
and get desired result. :rolleyes:

Post /etc/default/locale
If it contains the "desired" result, logoff/login.
