When I use MXPI Stable Repo tab, Nomacs is stated to be in the repo but when I tried to install it, the popup error message said it was not available in repo but merely referred to by another package. Synaptic doesn't show nomacs at all.

During testing of alpha which had nomacs preinstalled, Stevo created the deb of the latest version from the dev's git, because the version in the alpha repo at that time had an annoying bug (navigation left arrow got in the way of the thumbnails strip if strip was placed on the left). I confirmed the deb version works and is free of that bug, but it looks like Nomacs has gone missing in the repos.

It's not in Test Repo either.

That's strange because I installed Nomacs from the MXPI Stable Repo in MX-21 beta2 just a couple days ago (see below image) and it installed normally (without any error messages, etc.) and it's working fine.

That's strange because I installed Nomacs from the MXPI Stable Repo in MX-21 beta2 just a couple days ago (see below image) and it installed normally (without any error messages, etc.) and it's working fine.

That's strange because I installed Nomacs from the MXPI Stable Repo in MX-21 beta2 just a couple days ago (see below image) and it installed normally (without any error messages, etc.) and it's working fine.

Looks like my MX mirror was not synced. I changed to another mirror, and refreshed package list. It still was not there in Synaptic so I just installed the updates shown in Synaptic. Took some time because of the papirus update. By the time the update was done, the mirror had synced and nomacs now appeared upon another refreshing.

In addition to what asqwerth said in his Post #120, the installer has an anomaly which is also present in the MX-19 mx-installer.

The problem appears when doing a custom installation to an entire, unformatted disk. Right-clicking on sda and choosing the Template option for a Standard installation will then give the partition sizes mx-installer has determined to use. Here is an image with nothing changed from their default settings, installing to a 232.9 GiB (250GB) SSD:

As can be seen in the above image, sda is 232.9 GB (actually it's GiB) and the partition sizes it is going to use are:

• sda1 - 256 MB
• sda2 - 229995 MB
• sda3 - 8192 MB

The problem with those sizes is that 256 + 229995 + 8192 = 238443 and the total SSD size is 232890 which the mx-installer correctly lists as 232.9 GB, but gives the incorrect partition size for sda2 - incorrect because using that size, the total disk size will be 5.543 GB (GiB) over the limit of the SSD.



I went through with the installation without changing anything. The final installed partition sizes are shown below as given by GParted (image is below):

• sda1 - 256.00 MiB
• sda2 - 224.60 GiB
• sda3 - 8.00 GiB

Notice how sda2 went from 229.995 GB (GiB?) to 224.60 GiB - a difference of 5.4 GiB!
Also notice how sda3 went from 8.192 GB (GiB?) to 8.00 GiB.

As it stands now, if the maximum amount of disk space is desired (unallocated space is to be kept to a minimum), then when changing any partition size the inflated mx-installer size must be used and all the partitions to be created must add up to that "incorrect" figure.

If all the partitions are created based on the true total disk size then the difference from the true size to the inflated size will result in that amount of unallocated space being created after the installation.

It also seems that you’re pulling in a newer Mesa from that Repo?

The real question is, outside of not knowing and just wanting something… was there an issue with the stock MX-21 Beta 2 install that made you do all this?

We need to know if there were issues before not after.

You can make nomacs fit better with the default font of MX or your own default font (you have to go bigger - if MX uses 10.5 try 13 for example). And adjust nomacs status bar text to match darkness of your font set in your gtk theme.

This might make Nomacs better for you. Add this to end of...

I'm running SysVinit in MX-21 Xfce (at least that is what Quick System Info says so we have to trust the devs about this )

I installed Caja from Synaptic with no extra dependencies. I had mate-icons and mate-themes installed since before, but that shouldn't matter.

I have used Caja in MX-19 all the time, not because I mind Thunar, but because #%¤¤!!! tumbler.

I assume you are running Xfce my friend because I know your preference for exotic environments...

Trash works perfectly here - move to Trash, restore from Trash and empty Trash.

What you can do is to add the file below to
~/.local/share/applications/

I have only changed the last line so Caja shows up in the Xfce environment. Feel free to add whatever exotic environment you want to the last line.

Give the file a nice name like caja-browser.desktop

Then Caja should show up in Whisker menu like a regular application. If you want Caja as your default file manager just go to (Xfce) Settings Manager > Default Applications > Caja File Manager should be in the list to choose from.

Good point SwampRabbit - yes had issue before - did a full install from Live USB on a clean NVME - got display but without GPU acceleration, so then tried a number of things including the install from the AMD Linux Drivers site, then went on a merry goosechase of dependencies. Uninstalled and purged that install a few times but then figured out they're looking for 5.4.0-42 and I've leapfrogged that to 5.10.0-8 so purged again and just went with what 21 has. Now I'm waiting for catch up, or should I remove ahs source or downgrade kernel to 5.4.0-42?
