Apologies for tacking this onto the back of an existing thread but I could not find where to post a new item.
Issues discovered in MX 21 -
1. (still existing from Mx-19.4) Unable to copy files between virtual machine (vmware and open-vm) and a windows 10 host. In Mx-19.4 had to remove and purge open-vm, then install vmware tools from vmware then re install open-vm. Errors still arise but (usually) most files will copy between the mx virtual machine and the host.
2. The moving of the control buttons (next, close, continue, cancel, etc) from the bottom of the window to the top and often with less flexibility or options is a pain.
3. Having to hold the right mouse button down to select an item in the right click menu. MX-21 defaults to automatically selecting odd items which are usuall something like the closest in physical distance from where the menu lines up with the actual position the cursor was in when the right click button is activated. You never know what you will get. Is this something to do with single mouse click feature which I feel is a step backwards and problematic.
4. Unable to re-add firefox / tor windows to an existing tab position in the browser that was already open. This appeared after multiple tabs suddenly opened in new windows. It was not possible to put them back into the original browser window.
5.Freezing then crashing of the entire OS after Tor has been running for a few hours. This issue appeared a few years ago in Ubuntu (particularly the Lubuntu versions) and occurred in MX-19 as well.
6. MX freezing for up to 15 minutes and unable to do anything. Only solutions discovered so far are to wait or power off the machine and restart. Note that Logging off, restart and shutdown do not work when this happens.

I do like the speed and overall stability as well as the new wallpaper.

OzzieT, this is the beta feedback thread, so all feedback goes into this one thread :)

@OzzieT is all of this in a VMware VM?

Can you explain what window and what buttons you are talking about in #2?

I can’t replicate #4 with Firefox.

Also post your Quick System Info please.

Been looking into the theme thing a bit more.

I open MX Tweak
Then in the theme tab I see this:
Screenshot_2021-09-09_09-38-19.png
that is the "new" thing I was talking about earlier.
Selecting things under Application changes looks around of various open windows.

When I click on Window Manager in the bottom I see this (the "old" thing):
Screenshot_2021-09-09_09-38-40.png
Whatever I pick in the left window, it seemingly (of course I do not have every program in the world open) does nothing.

The right side does work.

Ibus issues / config

Installed ibus-avro using MXPI
Logged off and back in
Opened IBus preferences; throws error (check screenshot), allowed to start ibus daemon.
Unable to find and add Avro phonetic ibus entry.

Update: Found it under Bangla language > Avro Phonetic.
Testing here: অভ্র কিবোর্ড এ এখন লেখা যাচ্ছে।

Still, the ibus daemon message and bashrc config notice should not be thrown at the user after install, isn't it?
Also ibus should be autoloaded at startup now, which isn't being done after a reboot.
I seem to have encountered a crash on next reboot where I can't open ibus preferences; mouse just goes into spinning animation.
ibus and ibus-gtk3 packages should be included in the distro by default if I'm not wrong; or am I?

You should not be looking at "Application" in MX Tweak but the middle pane, ie "Window Manager", to get what you want in the original XFCE WIndow Manager settings. "Application" pane in MX Tweak corresponds to XFCE's APPEARANCE settings, first tab.

MX Tweak's new theming look is the way that Dolphin brought together the gtk theme and icons from APpearance Settings, and Window Manager themes from the Window Manager settings. Previously you had to open those 2 different Settings windows to change those 3 things. Now you can do so from one window with 3 panes in MX Tweak.

Oh wait .. t..

there are two the same things next to each other? Ah I see that now.

Sheesh this is confusing the heck out of me.

I am gonna take another look in there, but as far as I am concerned my logic would be to remove that part of the window in the second screenshot, that part that doesn't do anything. Someone not in the know will say "that is a bug, it doesn't work". (it does work, read on)

Rebooting and seeing if I can get my brain wrapped around this.

Ok back now.. I see what you mean. I had libreoffice open, mx welcome open, and mx tweak open. Now I see what happens with some changing some not changing, and the window manager one (the first screenshot) DOES work, but only changed things on MX welcome.

Now I have them all set to the same. I thought it was messy, with some following and some not, but you have to set them all up.
And only now I see in the second screenshot I can choose a theme set. Hadn't even seen that yet.

Is this because of gtk2 gtk3 theming or something?

@Eadwine Rose

You are confused.

"Applications" refers to gtk theme, and themes the inside backgrounds, buttons, scrollbars, cursor highlights, etc of opened gtk apps.

"Window manager" themes the external window decorations and borders of opened applications so long as they are not gtk3 CSD apps like Archive Manager or Document Scanner or some parts of xfce itself (eg the xfce settings manager, preferences dialogue in thunar, etc). The csd stuff is no longer controlled by window manager themes.

Some apps may also not have window manager borders if they hardcode their own internal handling of the borders /outlines.

So you need to tell us WHICH APP OR WINDOW you say is "not working". Are you sure you applied the right internal theme or border theme? If you apply a window manager theme under Window manager settings of xfce, you should see the outside borders change, NOT the inside of the app, and that is assuming you are trying to change the borders of a gtk app that is not csd.

Frankly I don't think there is anything confusing abt the new mx tweak. It's just bringing together the controls for 3 theming elements that in mx19 were found in 2 different xfce settings managers. Now, they are still found in the same 2 settings managers, just that you can get to them in one place if you use mx tweak instead.

The only issue is WHAT App or window is actually affected by the window border themes.

As I said.. it IS working. And I explained with the screenshots in post 65 which I thought was not working (which turns out it is, as per 68, but only mx welcome responded to it.

To you all it makes sense, this is for this, that is for that. To me with no knowledge of what all is what, it all is the same.

So
"Window manager" <-- external, outer window
"Applications" <-- things inside that window , internal

To me a scrollbar is a scrollbar, whether it is the one on the outer edge or the one inside a text field, and that is where I get confused.

Someone who doesn't know all this will go "why do I need to set it in three spots?"

Anyway, no biggie, no bug, fixed for me, I get it now, nevah mind.
