Requesting Osmo 4.4

#1 Post by arm45 »

I'm running MXLinux 19.4 using LXDE as my dm. I want to install Osmo 0.4.4 but Synaptic tells me that 0.4.2-2 is the latest vsn in MXLinux's repositories (I'd use the MX Package Manager but, LXDE...)

Can Osmo 0.4.4 be added to the repositories?

The author of Osmo says 0.4.4 contains fixes for numerous bugs found in Osmo 0.4.2-2

@arm45 sorry for the delay, wanted to make sure backporting the newer version was possible before posting, it looks like it is... I'll give it a go in the next day or few days, then post back in here.

Why doesn't MX PI run in LXDE, by the way?

Thanks for your reply Stevo.

I don't know why MX PI doesn't run under LXDE. When I observed this behavior I assumed that XFCE provided capabilities, or had requirements, that weren't available under LXDE as, when I login using XFCE, the tools do work.

Several other MX Tools exhibit timeout/non-executing behavior (the cursor gains the rotating circle (indicating pgm loading), a few moments pass, then the cursor returns to normal after what I assume is a timeout); these are: MX Boot Options, MX Boot Repair, MX Cleanup, MX Codex Installer, MX Date and Time, MX Fix GPG Keys, MX Live Boot Maker, MX Network Assistant, MX Package Installer, MX Repro Manager, MX Snapshot, and MX User Manager.

MX Tools that do work under my instanced of LXDE are: MX Menu Editor, MX Remaster CC, MX Select Sound, MX Tools, MX Tweak.

HTH.

Thanks again,

Alan M.

The list that doesn't work are those that require elevated privileges. Maybe you don't have/didn't install an authentication program that works with lxde.
Desktop: Intel i5-4460, 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics
Clevo N130WU-based Ultrabook: Intel i7-8550U (Kaby Lake R), 16GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics (UEFI)
ASUS X42D laptop: AMD Phenom II, 6GB RAM, Mobility Radeon HD 5400

Hello Asqwerth,

Thank you for your reply.

Using Synaptic I went to see what was installed when I installed LXDE. I'm not entirely sure that I didn't use apt-get to install LXDE but, when using Synaptic to see what I could see, I noticed that numerous support programs for LXDE had been marked as installed as part of the original LXDE install except for the 'Authentication package' lxpolkit 0.5.4.1 so, naturally, I installed that package then, upon logging out and back in, found that several of the MX Tools that hadn't been working were now working (sure that it was unnecessary I didn't check all the tools).

So, that issue is now fixed.

Oddly Slimjet, the browser I use, then started failing on Reddit logins. Whatever the cause (doubtless something with lxpolkit), a reboot fixed that issue.

So, thank you for your help. No longer having to logout and login using the XFCE dm to use MX Tools certainly helps with work-flow.

Thanks again,

Alan M.

@arm45 as a follow up to your PM, it looks like I didn’t post back in here after Osmo 4.4 made it to the MX Test Repo.
That’s my bad.

But please let us know if it works properly and everything. Thanks!
