Very weird. I hadn't booted the testing machine up since bringing this up, and successfully launching Dolphin from the terminal per DO's suggestion: dolphin --new-window.

So I see your post and fire it up again. Dolphin is now launching just fine, multiple times, without applying your fix.
doing the --new-window essential resets that session file, so likely same effect anyway.

however we plan to remove the session file as part of the installer's setup routines when saving desktop changes.

Gotchya.

Any idea about the missing menu buttons for Reboot and Shutdown in the main menu?

Yes. On my new fresh install, only the Logout button appears.

That’s not one I can duplicate yet. Is there space for those buttons or just no buttons at all?

Not there and no space for them. There's a divider just above the one Logout button.

Not a big deal for me, I usually don't even use those buttons, and this is a beta after all, but it's an anomaly that I felt should be reported.

it would be interesting to know two things in this order:

1. do they show up if you boot in systemd mode.
2. do they show up if you start up a live session, delete the session folder on the hard drive install, home/user/.config/session, and then boot back into your hard drive install.

Nice, but it looks like the only issue is theming consistency. Qt apps are dark while Gtk apps are light. ::)
I am command line illiterate. I copy & paste to the terminal. Liars, Wiseguys, Trolls, and those without manners will be added to my ignore list.
