JayM wrote: Fri Aug 27, 2021 8:00 am On my favorite subject, Docklike Taskbar, is there a way to launch another instance of a pinned item? Left-clicking only opens the instance that's currently running and I don't see anything in the right-click context menu that allows me to open a new instance. I have to use the Whisker menu if I want to open another (for example) instance of Thunar where with real launchers in the panel I'd just have to click on the launcher again to open a second Thunar. I don't see anything in the wiki entry for Docklike about launching multiple instances of pinned apps either.
when we started, it had a "launch another" option in the right click menu, but that's apparently gone.

shift+left_click will do it though.
Shift+left click! Thanks, dolphin!

@Jerry3904 could you add this tip to the wiki? Because I'm bound to forget it and I'm just smart enough to search the wiki for "docklike" when I have questions or get stuck.

@JayM its already included in the wiki entry.

https://mxlinux.org/wiki/docklike-taskbar/

I miss the ”launch another” option that used to exist. Maybe it can be added back, I think (if I remember right) the reason it was removed was because the right-click menus got out of control with too many options.

I’ve been using the hot keys since, but for new users the menu item could be useful on first use.

When above machine is left powered up, once the Power Manager Display settings go to blank, it can't be recovered. Black screen. no response from mouse or keyboard.
It's possible to Ctrl-Alt-F1 to start another session, or to reboot.
Setting everything to Never leaves it running.
It hasn't happened with earlier version of MX Linux.

@chrispop99 This may / may not be related but, have you tried when booted without the video=SVIDEO-1:d parameter ?

If still not: What about when "Lock Screen when ... going to sleep" unchecked in Power Manager ?

Thanks for the suggestion, but neither of those fixed it.

Interestingly, when booting with post-4.9 kernels this machine needed that boot parameter in order to prevent boot times of more than three minutes, so I just added it out of habit. After removing it, boot time was normal, so it looks like it's not needed with the newer kernel.

(This machine is only a test box; I posted just as a data point.)

out of curiousity, is the situation different when booted up with systemd?

It's possible to Ctrl-Alt-F1 to start another session, or to reboot.
Setting everything to Never leaves it running.
It hasn't happened with earlier version of MX Linux.

out of curiousity, is the situation different when booted up with systemd?
No.

I miss the ”launch another” option that used to exist. Maybe it can be added back, I think (if I remember right) the reason it was removed was because the right-click menus got out of control with too many options.

I’ve been using the hot keys since, but for new users the menu item could be useful on first use.
I must have missed seeing that one line in the wiki too.

A right-click "open new instance" was what I was looking for. If they wanted to unclutter the right-click menu they could turn all of that workspace stuff to hotkeys and put the launch new instance back. It's something that would be looked for by more people than menu choices for moving to various workspaces so it shouldn't have been the one removed just to reduce menu clutter: it's a core functionality IMO.

Not sure if this is expected behaviour, but if you do Ctrl-Alt-F1, then without doing anything else, do Ctrl-Alt-F7, you get back to a working screen.

What if you just turn off "Display Power Management" in Power Manager - Display tab? (Without setting others to never)
