Bad news...
If I try to install nvidia proprietary drives, I get this:

With nouveau I've got problems with screen-tearing. I'm trying now to fix it using compton. It partially succeded, but the effect is still not so satisfactory as in MX19 with proprietary drives.

In MX19 only with KDE nouveau works well out of the box. In XFCE it is possible to deal with a problem changing some settings. Dealing with noveau and Fluxbox is a really hard job... Hopefully I will not have to move to KDE on my main machine and stay with MXFluxbox only on laptops...

I suggest you post this also in the main mx-21 Xfce feedback thread, where the main nvidia Devs are more likely to see it. If you didn't do this already, you might search that feedback thread since I seem to remember seeing nvidia posts being made.

I tried to remove the first entry manually from (.fluxbox/submenus/full_menu) but it comes back when you select update menu.

That's because we created a second desktop file in order to get the tint2 panel to accept the config we wanted. Not sure that's still necessary, thanks, will take a look.

EDIT: nope, apparently not. I took it out and rebooted, and now there's only the one with the MX logo. Not totally sure what will happen with an upgrade, but I guess we'll find out.

so make good the double entry by making one of them show appfinder compact; add "-c" to one of the full menu entry commands(?)

the -c or --collapsed brings compact run mode of appfinder.
make good of the two entries. for now, customize it while it is there and excuse the double entry (?)

Worth considering, thanks. We have the native fbrun for that purpose already so not sure about doing that.
