@Richard
Your window borders are all over the place. Did you touch the "no CSD" setting in MX Tweak?
If you did, you might want to uncheck that setting and then reboot.
Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

Thanks @dreamer,
I don't think so, but I'll take a look.

Yes, it was checked. I thought it was the default.
I had installed the Qt4 version of Doublecmd to see the difference then removed and back to the GTK2 version.

Unchecking the CSD seems to have cleared up a lot of issues for me.
Checking out the other things with QSI and pasting.
Expect it will be stable.
Thanks, again.

I have found 3 issues/questions after installing MX21beta XFCE on my good old Core2Duo desktop:

1) Thunderbird localization: despite selecting German language during the installation, TB remains in English language and requires a manual

Code: Select all

sudo apt install thunderbird-l10n-de
2) The UFW firewall does not work. After enabling it with

Code: Select all

sudo ufw enable
all web traffic comes to a halt. Only after disabling it, internet traffic does flow again. I have been using a Devuan 4 Gnome installation on this machine before, which didn't have this kind of problem.

3) AppArmor is not installed by default. IIRC Debian comes shipped with it since Buster. Is this a specific decision by MX developers, and why?

Besides this, MX21 looks like a nice, fast and polished distro - thanks a lot to all involved for the good work!

Cheers
Alp

Edit: re 1) I just noticed that Firefox has no German locale as well.

I don't understand how MX Tweak is supposed to work regarding CSD. Xfce 4.16 uses CSDs by default yet MX Tweak says:

"Use Client Side Decorations (CSD) on GTK3 applications that support them (requires session restart)" - this checkbox is ticked by default.

So this is the default setup when nothing is changed. I intend to uninstall the gtk3-nocsd packages (because frankly that was a bad idea already 5 years ago) and install the proper nocsd solution for Xfce 4.16. What would be the correct setting for MX Tweak so that it doesn't interfere with Xfce window management?

apparmor causes certain apps (libreoffice, and others) to not run under the live-usb. there are a couple of other issues, but that's the biggie.

if you uninstall gtk3-nocsd, then you don't have to worry about the switch at all, the feature will be disabled. In fact, we will not be shipping that on final anyway. it causes many unexpected problems.

Thanks, d_o. It’s a relief to know. MX-19 is excellent, but it’s nice to have a path forward and MX-21 seems like a MX quality product.

PS Yesterday I posted about a possible replacement for Disk Manager. Maybe my suggestion is no good. I happened to post in a section that can only be viewed by logged in users. So I leave the link here just to make sure that someone in the dev team read it. Maybe people like Gnome Disks. I think it's important to have an easy way to configure automount for partitions whatever that may be.
