@MXRobo

If the final MX21 iso has different themes, icons, preset configs, or default applications, those won't turn up in your installation. Configs especially, since your $HOME/ configs and dot files aren't changed upon any updates.

If you don't care about that for your own usage, then you will have some sort of updated MX21.

But if because of this, members decide they will no longer test the next beta to further refine the final release, then it would be a shame.

I have installed Mx 21 beta successfully on a Tuxedo Laptop without any major issue. Also, I have installed kde 5.20.5 and runs very smoothly also. One minor problem that I have encountered is that when I have installed games-arcade package only the meta package have installed

It is supposed to look at the .desktop file under usr/share/applications. You can try and make sure those exist after have the proper icons defined. You can easily create them if not.

@SwampRabbit Two of the three .desktop files were already there. Waiting for the PM.

Another possibly related issue is that right-clicking on the generic "gear" icons in docklike don't open context menus that among other things let me pin them. They just show the apps' names.

I installed it on a Dell G3 15 3500, with the proprietary Nvidia driver. Monitors connected to HDMI and DisplayPort did not work.The builtin monitor and the one connected to USB type-C, with an HDMI adapter are working normally.

Thanks, as I was interpreting dolphin’s “we won't change any settings that are in the home folder.” to mean
it wouldn’t change anything in my home folder in the beta to the final.
Perspective, that seems obvious now that you pointed it out.

Would the Release Candidate potentially have the same issues/differences as the final, albeit less so?
Or, should I just wait for the final release if I want my install to be "about" the same?

Would you like me to help test the beta?
I’m not very knowledgeable with linux, so I thought I might actually hinder the testing feedback.

Either way, I now at least have some idea as to how betas may update – thanks.

Don't worry about testing.

It more depends if you have spare hardware (a spare machine, a spare hard drive, or partition on a drive) to experiment.

If you do, just download, check the md5 hash, load on a USB and try it live.
Report any problems.

If you can, install, record your procedure and observations.
Report any bugs that would interfere with your normal use.

That is the value of many testers, each with different hardware, each with different goals and software configurations.

It increases the chances that the final will meet all your requirements.
