Dear All,

Installed MX-21 beta 1 one a Dell Optiplex 9020 (details below) today. I elected a simple install, didn't do anything fancy or complicated, it worked perfectly. Also did a system update afterwards and again, worked perfectly.

Dutch localization for Thunderbird is not 100% ok.
From the Popular Applications, Language, Dutch_Thunderbird is installed, but not greyed under Language and thus can't be uninstalled.

Sometimes the wrong system localization language may be selected.
After setting the system language to EN-US the result was German (DE).
I have deselected all languages except for EN-US and NL-NL and NL-NL was selected as the default system language. After new log in the system language remained EN-US.
I needed to remove EN-US and NL-NL became the only installed language.
Finally the system language was NL again.
After installing again EN-US, the system language remained unchanged: NL-NL

if you've selected a language/locale from the menu in lightdm, it will override anything else you do.

the Dutch_thunderbird -> thanks for the report, looks like they have eliminated a package for lightning localizations but left a "provides" in place so install still works. will revise the thunderbird language scripts.

Will MX-21 beta1 become stable through updates?

This is not feedback, but I couldn’t find anything under the board index more appropriate.

This comment states that MX-21 beta1 will become stable through updates.

Another source suggested that I wait for MX-21 RC as it should become stable through updates.

I’ve been waiting for months to install MX-20, then MX-21 onto two laptops, one of which I will be giving to
someone who needed an organ transplant – they have since gotten one.
So, if possible, I’d like to know definitively if MX-21 beta1 will become stable through updates.
Otherwise, I may simply wait.

Obviously, I like this distro.
Thanks in advance.

the beta will receive updates same as any other iso. a few of us devs have discussed removing the beta nomenclature when mx21 is released but no general dev team decision has been made. even if we don't, its actually only a string in /etc/mx-version that gets changed, because the betas get updated all the same. there may be some packages removed or added that won't be automatic, and we won't change any settings that are in the home folder.

no, we won't be snapshoting monthly betas. for one thing, we are still working on the live system, which reminds me, that won't update on a live-usb, but if you make a snapshot you will get anythign new.

I'd gone back to using MX-19.4 as my regular system but just booted into MX-21b1, installed the updates which included Firefox v.91, and the right-clicking on links issue is gone. (I checked prior to opening Firefox and the gtk3-nocsd package is installed.)

hello dolphin_oracle and JayM
firefox right-click behavior here is unchanged by firefox91. Sorry to not report the same as JayM; firefox right-click in web page and flashing tooltips when using tweak checkbox Other, Use CSD on GTK3, is still an issue after upgrade.

Where does Docklike Taskbar get its icons from? I have some apps that I've installed from non-MX packages or from tarballs that just show a generic gear icon when they're running but if I mouse-hover over them the proper icons are shown at the left of the application's name. Whisker menu is also showing the correct icons. (I read the wiki page but it didn't mention the icons.)

Update: I was reading the issues on docklike's github page an apparently it's supposed to use the icons from the launchers whether in Whisker menu, the desktop, or wherever, but it isn't doing that for (in this case) apps installed from non-Debianized .deb files or in one case an app I added to Whisker using alacarte. I've added an issue on the github page: https://github.com/nsz32/docklike-plugin/issues/112.

FYI the apps in question are SDR++ and Viber, installed from .deb files and VirtualRadarServer (the alacarte one) which I actually launch from a shell script that also opens and runs dump1090-fa in a terminal.
