MX-21 beta 1 feedback thread
Re: MX-21 beta 1 feedback thread
LOST DATA: NOW I THINK THAT MX-BETA WAS NOT TO BLAME
I posted earlier in this thread that I had lost my data when I used the new disk partitioning/mounting feature. Well I recovered older data from an old hard drive, which I now have set up as backup using rsync. I recovered a lot of personal stuff, especially photos, which were still on the cameras/videocam I had taken them on. Luckily, I had put my wedding album on my phone... as for a lot of settings files, I had to rebuild them! Although I lost a lot of documents, I'd probably not have ever looked at the vast majority of them ever again.
Anyway, I am now of the opinion that there were other factors involved, emanating from the ESP partition getting broken. Having fixed that I installed the MX21 beta again, but this time, I only tried to mount one partition in addition to the root partition, whose contents weren't needed. But this time it installed and mounted the second partition without damaging its contents, so I now reckon that it works properly.
I don't know precisely how or when my data had got wiped across 6 partitions. The partitions were still sitting there but empty. That will have to remain a mystery.
ORAGE — I'VE INSTALLED IT AND GOT IT WORKING ON MX21!!

I downloaded the packages orage and orage-data from the MX19 repository, and was able to install orage-data, and patch orage so that could be installed too. I put it on my panel using GenMon. I started a thread back in January this year, and I've just made a small amendment to reply #13 which explains how to patch orage. You have to change the name of the package because the people at XFCE have added a dependency so that ANY package called orage cannot co-exist with xfce4.16, and the amendment allows for this. Reply #7 explains how to put it on the panel using GenMon, bearing in mind I'm using a horizontal menu with two rows, time and date, but obviously there are other layouts possible.
I REALLY DON'T LIKE CSD!
They look awful, and cause confusion by putting OK buttons at the top of the window rather than the bottom. And putting "normal" decorations on top of the CSD looks even worse! So having sorted out Orage I might go to KDE in the future.

That's great about orage, please make sure that @dolphin_oracle knows the exact procedure you followed and has access to your packages so he can evaluate it.

I put a link to it in post #431. viewtopic.php?p=620535Jerry3904 wrote: Sun Aug 08, 2021 11:03 am That's great about orage, please make sure that @dolphin_oracle knows the exact procedure you followed and has access to your packages so he can evaluate it.
It's 100% explained there. All I did was remove three xfce dependencies and rename the app. The latter part I added today so it's all in one place.
You need to look in replies #7 and #13.

Re: MX-21 beta 1 feedback thread
Hi, I tried to search the thread but couldn't find this. Are the drivers for my nvidia 540M graphics card, no longer available in the repositories of the latest Debian? I am uploading the log of the installation. Thank you in advance for any information.
