VCR58 wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 12:14 pm What is the preferred method to share a folder in MX21?

I tried right clicking on a folder in Thunar and selected "Share a folder on your network" but all it does is ask for authentication and quits.

I suppose I can edit etc/samba/smb.conf but that's kind of old fashion. And the system-config-samba app that worked so well in MX19 is not supported :(

Seems like there is a lack of interest in developing easy ways to share folders with the DE.
This issue you are reporting and the whole subject has been covered numerous times in this thread, please go back through it if you want more detail, system-config-samba development stopped and isn't available for newer systems.

There is no 'lack of interest", there is a lack of time and energy to dedicate to this on Xfce right now. Everyone on every Xfce based distro is in the same boat right now.

Anyone is free to tell us of a tool to switch to (if they can find one GL) or develop something.... to many Chiefs not enough Indians it seems.

https://www.pyragraph.com/2013/05/good- ... -pick-two/

I already have a work around solution, but its not simple, requires some extra work, and really isn't a good long term solution so that is on hold... while a better one is being worked.
Thanks for the reply.

I installed the thunar-shares-plugin for mx21 and it seems to work just fine for my purposes.

Sorry for my rant.

Well. Curiosity is a nasty trait, but a natural one xD Forgive the laziness and lack of browsing the entire topic. I would like to ask if there are still problems with having to assign media in fstab? Is there a possibility when migrating to keep my data, in home? The live system, seems to work very well, so I'm tempted to try to migrate xD I'm not using UEFI. Could this be a problem?

there are not problems with fstab. and you can keep /home. make sure your installer and gazelle-installer-data-mx is up to date first, as there was a bug adding non-system partitions in the installer on beta 1.

in the drop down menus, in the format drop down, you can select "Preserve".

The Conky MX-ManyRoads/cpufile in MX-21 beta1 does not display the horizontal bargraphs. Everything else in that Conky works. I mention @manyroads here in case he is interested.

The problem is because the lua script that is used for that Conky is using "loadstring()" which has been deprecated to "load()".

When MX-ManyRoads/cpufile is started it will load allcombined.lua which uses the depreciated "loadstring" function.

In ~/.conky/MX-ManyRoads/ edit "allcombined.lua" by changing each instance of "loadstring" to "load". There are six lines to change in that file although only one (line 19) needs to be changed to fix it (the other 5 had no effect on the bargraphs). I changed all six because "loadstring" was depreciated so all of them should be changed. The offending characters are shown in red.

Line 19: local bartab=loadstring("return" .. bartab)()
Line 87: local bgtab=loadstring("return" .. bgtab)()
Line 155: local caltab=loadstring("return" .. caltab)()
Line 280: local imtab=loadstring("return" .. imtab)()
Line 317: local textab=loadstring("return" .. textab)()
Line 381: local txttab=loadstring("return" .. txttab)()

Note that once the Conky appears on the desktop it takes about 12 seconds for the bar-graphs to load so be patient.

This is an image taken from a correctly working MX-ManyRoads/cpufile Conky in MX-21 beta1. Before the fix there was just a black background where the bargraphs should be.

Edit: For the sharp-eyed, my CPU is six cores (and six threads) and the reason this image is showing only four cores is because I am showing the default. This Conky was modified to display all 6C/6T on my daily-used MX-19.4 installation.

Dear Devs,

It would be better if the Thunar sidepanel shortcuts would be arranged alphabetically. I keep clicking the wrong shortcuts due to muscle memory. Thanks!
