I bought a sub $200 mini pc without expecting much from it. It comes with Win 10 and is working ok.

I tried the mx-21 beta and the wireless does not work. I am unable to try wired ethernet at this time. In Quick system info it is a Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter.

Per here : https://mxlinux.org/wiki/hardware/realt ... -detected/

I was able to get the deb rtl8821ce-dkms_5.5.2.1-7~mx21+1_all.deb file here: http://mxrepo.com/mx/repo/pool/main/r/rtl8821ce/

So in mx-21 using thunar I right clicked and select to install using gdebi. Gdebi loads and when I click to install the package, the gdebi window disappears.

I've tried this a couple times after rebooting with the same results. I checked and the package is not installed.

Can someone else try installing this deb to see if it is a problem with the deb or my system.

Ok I managed to install the deb.

I ran gdebi-gtk from a terminal and using File/Open was able to install the package.

The difference this time was instead of the window disappearing, I was prompted for a password and the it proceeded to install.

However once done, when right clicking on network manager I still don't see a wireless option, just ethernet.

I still don't have internet access on this box. I copied the Quick System Info to a text file and transferred to another pc with internet access to post it here:

This QSI was taken after installing the deb file. Any advice how to troubleshoot/proceed is appreciated.

This was already been reported, gdebi wasn't working initially, but should be good now... make sure your system is updated. I just used it right now.
That or use the right-click "Install deb files".

The dkms issue is going to be an issue for some wireless adapters that aren't inlcuded unless someone has wired access.

Thanks for the reply SwampRabbit. I edited the post while you were replying as I didn't believe anyone saw it yet.

I was able to install the deb, but not sure how to proceed as I don't see a wireless connection in network manager after the install.

In a few days I will be able to try using wired access. Need to get wireless working though as I will need this system to run with wireless internet.

Sorry didn't mention I can't install yet (need to get a ssd drive to put mx on this box as has win 10 on a small ssd drive and can add a 2.5 inch drive) so was doing this using a live usb.

The QSI was added in above post after the deb install

Yes I saw the QSI get added, but its not showing the dkms driver active, and thanks for that additional info.

Are you familiar with the Live USB persistence options?

I created the live usb selecting the option i believe allows you to install packages running live.

I don't know if this is something that would require reboot to work.

I don't mean to waste your valuable time with my lack of knowledge.

I wanted to know if I can get wireless working before I go buy a ssd to install mx. If wireless won't work I won't be able too use this pc.

Thanks for your help

Live USB on Lenovo Thinkpad booted UEFI without issue. Touchpad and touchscreen works ok.

I believe there is a bug with display scaling though. From the display settings I selected scale 1.5x and hit apply and everything got smaller as if the display resolution increased! The 2x setting was even smaller yet. I believe this is backwards. Display scaling is supposed to make everything bigger and easier to read for higher resolution displays.

The installer went without any issues on my laptop. Everything installed correctly, including Nvidia driver installer. After messing with it for a few minutes I went back to Windows 10. Works much better for Laptops :)
