Thanks JayM . Pretty sure that was what I did, but it looks like it didnt work or I didnt do that. I resorted to Windoz and Rufus and GPT & UEFI and now it is booting up.

Next problem... I dont see the NVMe drive at all. Double checked that it was fully shutdown, and have shrunk the partition already in anticipating the install... but all gparted see's is the USB stick.

I wonder if I had the same problem. A brand new cruzer with MX Live USB Maker. Everything seemed to go ok. When I booted, my f12 boot choice showed the device (linpus lite. BTW: Where does that name come from? I've always wondered.). I chose it. But, the system booted the hard drive (skipping my choice. I tried unetbootin. Same thing.). I finally used MX Tools > Format USB. Then used Live USB Maker. That worked.

Does that sound like the same experience? If so, I wonder why USB Maker (or unetbootin) wouldn't detect it and do the necessary? Sorry if I'm off topic. It's just that if my experience is the same thing, then someone referred to "fix info permanently saved somewhere." That made me wonder why the tool(s) wouldn't detect the condition? (But, we may be talking about different things?).
This does sound like the same thing, with one exception - the cruzer wasnt new, it had on board an existing 19.2 live install - and positive it was mbr . It *seems* like the live creator didnt do the UEFI, but it is highly possible that I didnt set it. (thought I did.. but ... )

Sata mode to Ahci in Bios (if you haven't already).

I see no settings for this in that bios.

hello dolphin_oracle
[upper right hand corner type]
Doubled notification of "Updates" two of the same window

more observations of symptoms.
log in the root account only one Updates notification. log out.
log in user account sees two notification of Updates. log out.
log into root see one Updates notification. log out.
log into user sees two Updates notifications.

Now about the login lightdm screen:
the little person icon, clicking.
choosing "Large Text"
it shows a cramped menu with arrow up arrow down.
if the languages dropdown pops up and click somewhere to close or ignore it,
after that the little person icon menu is Large Text without the arrows. click Large Text to make small menu again, then the menu becomes small text on big menu area.

It is always navigational, but offers varied look. after clicking the little person icon and selecting or deselecting Large Text.

i like lightdm.
On the dual monitor it works great, follow mouse. i like the ability to sign into root account. user backgrounds.

This is a second feedback, whereas I had previously only booted directly from the ISO in VirtualBox on somewhat modern hardware and created a Live-USB. This is about the live-usb. The live-usb created flawlessly (twice, because the first was to suspected-to-be-bad flash drive; it was bad).

The second 16GB live-usb (about the minimum size to allow space for remastering) booted quickly to 2008 AMD-X64 dual-core hardware with 4 GB or RAM. Enabled persistence with 3 GB static-root rootfs. Upgraded, installed openssh-server, x2goserver, and x2goclient. The XFCE desktop continues in this version to be unusable as a remote machine, same as MX-19. From a local login I installed LXDE with MXPI. Logging in to LXDE locally and remotely via x2go found it to be totally usable and nicely configured.

After a reboot and saving persistence, I rebooted loading the nearly 800 MB persistence file. I remastered, and rebooted again, then cleaning up old persistence files with MX RemasterCC. Currently concurrently logged in locally with XFCE and running remotely with LXDE as same user. Working fine. No conflicts observed. Default software appears to work fine.

I've been unable to discover any new bugs. For the curious, here is a link to a screenshot of the slightly tweaked LXDE desktp from a remote session:

Looks like you nailed it ... In reading up on the Yoga 900, it needs a firmware update to expose this. The unit ships raid enabled, with no exposed bios setting ;-/

In the meantime, with no smb gui support in sight, may I propose a NFS GUI (updated recently to use GTK3/QT5) for inclusion and testing?
AFAIK, MX boots with NFS kernel mod loaded.

Ignore if not relevant.

There are a few minor issues on the hd installation but I'll do the updates and that might be the fix

Btw, anyone know if the screensaver issue's been fixed with this newer Xfce?
