@dolphin_oracle

I finally installed (on VM) the beta, and note that somehow the sharedfolder option doesn't stay permanently enabled.

Previously on the alpha VM, at first it didn't stay enabled, but after I ran the VM from an Arch-based distro (since you said the sharedfolder thing worked better in systemd), it finally stuck.

The beta VM's shared folder thing didn't stick after installation. So I booted into the same Arch distro, ran the VM, ran the command:

Code: Select all

sudo mount -t vboxsf -o uid=$UID,gid=$(id -g) Virtualbox-SharedFolder ~/sharedfolder
And the sharedfolder was enabled, for that session. Once I rebooted the VM, unfortunately it didn't stick.

For both VM I am using VMSVGA. All the settings are the same AFAICT.

However, there is a difference in how the mounted Virtualbox-SharedFolder shows up in Thunar for both VM:

alpha:
ksnip_20210801-225156.png

beta1:
ksnip_20210801-225243.png

Has any other change in beta been effected to cause this?

Note: I tried the simpler

Code: Select all

sudo mount -t vboxsf Virtualbox-SharedFolder ~/sharedfolder

first, but had permissions issues for the Virtualbox-SharedFolder directory between my host and VM.

Even with the simpler command, the sharedfolder as mounted in beta VM's Thunar shows up (for that session) as "sharedfolder" rather than "Virtualbox-SharedFolder"

Seems like we kinda prepared for these questions

I know the MX Manual in the Beta is still for MX-19.2, the manual will be updated at some point.

hello asqwerth
double-click title bar.
setting the double-click title bar to Shade
does not have the windows offer roll-up.
the windows only maximize on titlebar double-click.

is there an app example? @i_ri

the action seems to work OK with firefox and thunar.

I know what the problem is, a fix will come shortly from the repos.
mx-timedate has updated from 21.3 to 21.7, and the servers are now in the list. However, running 'Update Now' results in the message 'The system clock could not be updated.' A reboot didn't help.

EDIT

The machine I was testing this on has an encrypted install. When testing on other hardware without encryption, Date & Time work as expected.

Chris
I tested the command, you might get this error if one of the debian.pool.ntp.org fails, it runs the command with all of them and if one fails for some reason the command fails, I think I will change that to check in order and return once it gets a good result.
Now works as expected on all machines.

Installed MX21 beta1 32/64 bits on my test laptop "Acer Aspire 5715Z", from a USB with Ventoy, the installation occurs without errors on a single partition (/ and /home together and 4GB of swap), I install Grub in the MBR but when booting I get the message "No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key". I checked that Grub is installed in Sda and in the root partition of MX21, I boot again in the live usb and reinstall Grub with the MX tool, but the result is the same, the option to repair Grub doesn't work either...
I have not been able to continue with the tests because none of the 2 versions installs... In that same partition I had a respin of MX 19.4 without problems.
When I boot again with the live usb, I find that in the installation on disk in /home there is no folder created ???
Any help to continue with the real tests?

hello dolphin_oracle
Shade, roll-up,
two that you mentioned, firefox and thunar, xfce-terminal, TaskManager have the roll-up greyed out; they do not Shade. featherpad offers roll-up and double-click titlebar does Shade. mx cleanup does Shade. userManual qpdfview does Shade.
Is that enough examples to create differentiation? categories?

Do you mean 1 in the upper corner and the other attached to the updater icon in the systray?

Assuming you didn't change the CSD-enabled settings in MX Tweak, probably the reason for the greyed out ones are that they are not Qt apps and thus they aren't using xfwm themes but the inbuilt window decorations in the gtk theme itself.

The option to shade/roll up comes from XFCE Window Manager settings and its xfwm themes.

featherpad, cleanup etc work because they are Qt apps and using xfwm themes.
