I'm pretty sure that there may be a post here somewhere that addresses this issue, but I need something that will not depend on any significant prior understanding of Networking or Linux.
I have two computers, a desktop and a laptop with the latest version of MX installed...
I just want to be able to share a few files so I don't have to copy them manually, using a USB stick or something like that...
They are connected to each other both wireless and Ethernet, but I am clueless on how to get them to communicate with each other in a way to allow file sharing...
MX doesn't do file sharing any differently than other Linux distros do, so a web search should give you enough information to start with: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffnt&q=linux+ ... 1-1&ia=web. Then if you get stuck or have any MX-specific questions you can come back and reply here. Don't forget to let us know if you're using Xfce, KDE or what, and MX-19 or 18, 64- or 32-bit, so we can help you better.
Try Warpinator, you can install it via MX Package Installer using the MX Test Repo tab.

Before you start, determine if you want user level access or open access to the folders on the server machine. If user level access, then you'll need to create user accounts for each remote user that will be connecting to the server machine for its shares, if open access, you need do nothing else.
On your primary machine with the content you wish to share (the server) Type samba into your menu and it'll show up.
First thing you need to do is add yourself as a user in the -> Preferences --> Samba Users menu, do not miss this step.
Next, close the add user dialogue and click the + to add a new shared folder.
This opens a small tabbed window, beginning on the Basic tab
Click the Browse button to locate and select the folder you wish to share, the fields will populate when you've made your selection. You can change the share name and description or leave them as they are.
Check the boxes for the options you desire. For first timers, it's easiest to click both as that opens up all options.
Click the Access tab and select one of the options in the radio buttons. If the top button, you'll have to add each user by selecting the checkbox next to their name, if the bottom button, there is nothing more to do. Close the dialogue when you're done.
By the time you've closed the samba dialogue, the shares should be available on the network with the options you chose.
You should now be able to find the servers shares by clicking the Browse Network icon in Thunars left pane. Sometimes it is necessary to drill down 1 more level through the samba shares entry.
