Kodi and MX

#1 Post by UncleGrandpa »

Using MX19 KDE, it's actually the only distro that works on my pc, believe me I tried a ton other KDE distros. XFCE works too but I like KDE/Plasma better. My problem is when using Kodi (18.5 ver) the volume is always at 100%, I can turn it down but volume will just go back to 100% clicking an icon or just navigating within Kodi. Is this a Kodi problem, KDE problem or a problem with MX??? I have 0 idea how to fix this, I use Kodi a lot but have to use winblows 10 to not get the 100% volume at every click. It's not my speakers or sound card because this works fine on windows 10, the problem doesn't care if I'm connected through my stereo or using Bluetooth speakers or headphones either. Super annoying when some thing you're watching comes on at 100%, surprised my speakers and/or eardrums haven't blown up yet.

That seems to be a unique problem--we haven't had any reports like that with 18.5 or the 19.0 in the test repo.

Do you have the same problem if you update to 19.0, or create a new user account and log in as that user?

Still have the same problem, either way, 18.5 or 19, my user account or another no change.

I jumped over to an XFCE DE to see if it was caused by KDE but that's not it either???

It's almost certainly due to problems with the opensource nouveau video driver which MX is using by default for your card, which in many situations is not going to take full advantage of your Nvidia card. Kodi uses openGL 3D to drive its GUI, so you may have to try and install the Nvidia video driver instead, and I suggest you try to do so with the MX Nvidia Installer in MX Tools.

It is most likely the flat-volumes setting, which is only used by default in Debian/MX. It has even been changed in upstream PulseAudio.

See this thread:
Make "flat-volumes = no" MX-15 default
viewtopic.php?f=97&t=40639&p=393768
Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.

That's something that's not built in to MX, something I need to add? Presently I have the audio settings in Kodi set to my sound-card, there's a PA setting too but setting audio to that made no diff.

Edited flat-volumes to 'no' from 'yes' and that made 0 difference
