MX-19 - Canon CanoScan Lide 300 "Simple Scan" and "gscan2pdf" don't found it, but sytem detect it

#1 Post by v17564 »

Hello.

Edit: scangearmp2 3.70 works perfectly.

Edit: I read in a openSUSE Leap forum that, this issue, is solved with libsane-1.0.31 but the actual version is libsane-1.0.27.

I need your help.

I buy a Canon scanner CanoScan LiDE 300 and the programs "Simple Scan" and and "gscan2pdf" don't found the scanner but the system detects it and, when i run Simple Scan or gscan2pdf, the scanner moves internally, i can hear it.

The scanner is completely supported by SANE: http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html#Z-CANON
CanoScan LiDE 300 - USB 0x04a9/0x1913 - Complete - All resolutions supported (up to 2400DPI) - pixma (0.28.6) - sane-pixma
I try this, TLP power management, but don't work: https://mxlinux.org/wiki/hardware/scanners/#Canon

According to https://unix.stackexchange.com/question ... -find-scan this could be due to wrong permissions. Does scanimage detect the scanner when run with root privileges (sudo)?

If this is not the case, does scangearmp2 work for you?

Best regards
Leonard

Hello Leonard.

Your link is for Epson scanner in a Raspbian. The scanimage don't found the scanner even with sudo.

I found scangearmp2 after my first post and works perfectly.

So your problem is solved now? If that is the case, please accept an answer as solution (the button with the tick), so others know there's a solution for this problem.

Best regards,

Hello Leonard.

The "Scan Gear" form Canon only have 2 options for the quality of scan: paper or photo, but don't have any option to select points per inch: 300, 400, 600. So, the problem isn't solved.

The only option to scan with other qualities is with a VM of Window$ in VirtualBox. Yes, is a solution but not with MX Linux directly. This forum is to advise about problems and found a solution with MX Linux.

Regards.

Unfortunately neither MX Linux nor any other Linux distro can do anything about the quality or features of Canon's scangear application for Linux. You would need to discuss that with Canon.
Please read the Forum Rules, How To Ask For Help, How to Break Your System and Don't Break Debian. Always include your full Quick System Info (QSI) with each and every new help request.

Hello JayM.

Canon says: "they don't support Linux", but made Scan Gear and publish the source code.

In this post from openSUSE Leap: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread. ... t-be-found, say that it's solved with new libsane-1.0.31:
Only recently have I discovered that the current version of preinstalled in openSUSE sane-backends 1.0.27 package doesn't support the specific scanner, but there is the most recent 1.0.30 version on the Sane website, which does support my scanner, but I cannot find out a way of installing that into openSUSE (I have never installed anything directly from the source).
Mx Linux have installed the same version: 1.0.27, an in the test repo there isn't new version. So, if i get a version of sane back end 1.0.30 or 31 perhaps can scan with Simple Scan or gscan2pdf with all options possibles.

Regards.
