Scrcpy 1.12.1 is now available in the MX-17/18 Main repository.
Scrcpy provides display and control of Android devices connected on USB (or over TCP/IP), mirroring your device's screen on your desktop and letting you control it with mouse & keyboard.
It does not require any root access. It does require USB Debugging be turned on, and allowing app installation from unknown sources on the first use (it pushes the .jar file necessary to connect to scrcpy to your phone over ADB).
The Launcher is in the Accessories Menu along with a launcher for the HTML documentation since those instructions are needed to connect over TCP/IP instead of by USB cable.
Enjoy!

Re: MX-17/18 Repository - The Scrcpy thread
Just to add, I use scrcpy all the time. I only found out about it a few months ago when I got my new phone, that doesn't have video out.
Have the changes made any difference for Linux users?
I haven't set it all up yet, keep forgetting, so have just been using it how it comes.

Re: MX-17/18 Repository - The Scrcpy thread
I installed this yesterday (in MX-19.3) and played with it for awhile. Pretty slick, though it takes up too much room on my 15.6" laptop screen. I plan to use it on my desktop with its bigger monitor later though.
I not only had to enable USB Debugging in Developer Options but also "USB Debugging (Security settings)" to enable using my mouse and keyboard to control my phone. I wish I'd found this and gotten it working a long time ago. I wouldn't have needed to install the Viber desktop app, I could have just used Viber on my phone along with my computer keyboard to make typing messages easier- I never can get the hang of using touchscreen keyboards on smartphones.

Re: MX-17/18 Repository - The Scrcpy thread
You can change the windowsize very easily with the mouse in the corner, or
Code: Select all
Window configuration
Title
By default, the window title is the device model. It can be changed:
scrcpy --window-title 'My device'
Position and size
The initial window position and size may be specified:
scrcpy --window-x 100 --window-y 100 --window-width 800 --window-height 600
Borderless
To disable window decorations:
scrcpy --window-borderless
Always on top
To keep the scrcpy window always on top:
scrcpy --always-on-top
lots more there, scroll down
https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy
same here, fingers too thick and smartphone too small ;-)...I never can get the hang of using touchscreen keyboards on smartphones...
Re: MX-17/18 Repository - The Scrcpy thread
I have long skinny fingers and have a newer, larger phone (Xaomi Redmi Note 8 with a 6.3 inch/97.4 square cm display) and I still struggle with its onscreen keyboard. It doesn't help that I'm in the Philippines which is the number one country in the world for the volume of text messages sent per day. Everybody communicates via texts for preference.
