Anyone else working on tiling? I arranged a simple tiling setup today. Good enough for my needs for now.

Thanks for the kind words about this setup :)

I suggest MX Fluxbox could put forward a few more modern, different, appealing themes for fluxbox itself and tint2. It would interest new users. I find that screenshots from MX website, and suggested themes, look too "old" (It took me some time to explore themes through the web and customize them). One will probably thinks "oh that's for some very old PC, or very geeky engineer, I do prefer xfce". Actually fluxbox is able to make one's PC more modern and interesting and easy-to-use... but let's make it famous :)

I love this attitude too! I have been amazed by some of the set ups that I'm seen in this thread. I'm super happy with mine which is just a slight difference from the latest default using the Fluxbox toolbar, but these others are beautiful. I also love the idea of collecting a number of great ones, and package them as optional layouts. Ubuntu Mate did something similar with their "Mate Tweak" tool. You could pick layouts that looked like the old Ubuntu Unity desktop, the Apple Mac desktop, or the Windows 10 desktop, along with some others that were more standard Gnome 2.0 looking. It would be neat to provide a selection of "best of" layouts for MX Fluxbox to give users some ideas about what is possible.

I use Pseudo Tiling in Fluxbox all the time, one of my favorite features. I wrote about it in my blog and included my keys file additions in the article. What you have looks nice. I also like how you put the Fluxbox panel and the dock up on the top side by side. That is a neat idea as well.

Oh yes, I'm reading your blog now, your tiling is very similar to my setup. I hacked mine together based on something similar to yours I found online today. I'm using the 1-9 keys on the number keypad:

Code: Select all

# Tiling
Mod4 KP_1 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 50% 50%} {MoveTo 00 00 BottomLeft}
Mod4 KP_2 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 100% 50%} {MoveTo 00 00 Bottom}
Mod4 KP_3 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 50% 50%} {MoveTo 00 00 BottomRight}
Mod4 KP_4 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 50% 100%} {MoveTo 00 00 Left}
Mod4 KP_5 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 50% 50%} {MoveTo 00 00 Center}
Mod4 KP_6 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 50% 100%} {MoveTo 00 00 Right}
Mod4 KP_7 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 50% 50%} {MoveTo 00 00 TopLeft}
Mod4 KP_8 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 100% 50%} {MoveTo 00 00 Top}
Mod4 KP_9 :MacroCmd {ResizeTo 50% 50%} {MoveTo 00 00 TopRight}
Mod4 Return :ToggleCmd {Maximize} {Restore}
I'll probably need to go with key combos like yours for when I'm not using a full sized keyboard with a number pad.

I like how you have set up your tiling with the 10 Key. I use the keyboard short cuts that I have because I use MX Fluxbox on a laptop without a 10 Key so it helps my old brain to have the same keyboard shortcuts on all of my MX computers.

Yes I saw that, makes perfect sense. And those keys are probably much easier to reach for you than going up to the number row at the top of the keyboard.
