Just because the kernel isn’t the stock one from Debian stable, doesn’t mean the kernel isn’t stable.Herve33 wrote: Wed Oct 07, 2020 4:43 am Okay, so automatically we will have the AHS kernel, and not the Debian Stable stable kernel. Pity.

Downloading to try the Live USB.

It would be much more of a pity, in our opinions, when a user tries to boot the liveUSB on their nice new machine and they get a black screen because the 4.19 kernel is too old to support their hardware. This is already the source of many help requests on the Debian forums and subreddit, and will only get worse over time until Bullseye is released, when the cycle will start over.
Re: Just want to say I love MX KDE!
No. It's the same deal as debian-backports kernels. The only LTS kernels Debian supports are those for releases, such as 4.19 for Buster and 4.9 for Stretch. If a big security exploit shows up for one of our advanced kernels, we try and add the Debian fixes for our backport, too.

Which is why people love MX (all versions, especially AHS and MX-KDE), which is what this thread is about I think.Stevo wrote: Wed Oct 07, 2020 3:53 pmNo. It's the same deal as debian-backports kernels. As an ancient MEPIS fanboy I have been wandering the Linux wastelands with Neon, mint, assorted 'buntus and other unsatisfying partners until now I find you lovely MXers have solved my problem. Even my old forum login still works and some of the old pals are still kicking around the neighbourhood. So a heartfelt "thankyou" from London town. I have even got my wallet out to make a small donation (that doesn't happen much)

Also an ancient Mepis fanboy here !
I have not yet done any testing of the KDE version..I guess I have fully adapted to xfce, which I really like.
But, how would you say the new shiny KDE MX compares to the polish that Warren used to put onto his KDE releases?
Some people even ran his last beta for years !

It is my default OS. It is an older version of KDE Plasma 5 out of necessity as it is the Buster version. It also has MX Tools and MX Package Installer. It has been rock solid for me.entropyfoe wrote: Tue Oct 20, 2020 10:36 am Also an ancient Mepis fanboy here !

richb,
I was also a KDE guy, having started in prehistoric times with a Suse KDE, then I found Mepis, enjoying all Warrens excellent KDE work.
I have adapted to xfce, and I will definitely try the KDE in my testing partition when I have spare time.
