As folks have already hinted at, more than likely your laptop needs a special boot parameter.
Please read my whole post, read the previous thread links provided, don't go blindly changing or doing things.
If you have questions or need help... just ask.
If you have messed around with different things and can't or don't remember how to get back to a clean install, I suggest reinstalling, the driver purge command only cleans and undoes so much.
When you install using the Nvidia Driver installer the following process typically works well:
- boot but at at GRUB press <
e> to open the editor
- add the following:
- boot into the system
- make sure you select "Optimus enabled" or whatever it says exactly when running Nvidia Driver Installer
Note: you can stop here before reboot and post the log to the forum if you want to make sure it installed properly
- reboot and at GRUB press <
e> to open the editor
- add any boot parameters you need (this are different for every laptop)
- boot into the system
Once you get it to boot properly, you can permanently add the correct parameter that worked using MX Boot Options
I did some interwebs searching and there is lots of info out there on your laptop, some of it seems hit or miss, only you can find the one that works with your laptop unless someone here had the same laptop and provides that info.
For my MSI laptop I need to use the following boot code, I have no way of knowing it will work with yours.
Code: Select all
acpi_osi=! acpi_osi="Windows 2009"
Every laptop is different, blame the Nvidia and the hardware manufacturers for not using open standards.
Bubblebee as stated before works very very well, the forum is littered with threads like this. Even the crazy disconnected GPU and external monitor ones get solved.
