[solved] odd effects running bleachbit
[solved] odd effects running bleachbit
I run bleachbit at every daily boot.
When I run it without elevated privileges, it erases data for a bit and then momentarily hides my bottom panel. At that point, I reboot and the Application Menu seems to ghost and hang for a few seconds before going to the reboot/shutdown selection screen. (I reboot because of the effects on the KDE desktop manager -- hiding the bottom panel)
After rebooting, I run bleachbit as root. Frequently, after a few seconds, the desktop vanishes and goes to reboot/shutdown screen.
Anyone else encountering this? If so, erasing what data group is causing the problems?

Maybe you post a screenshot of what are checked. (I'm also using Bleachbit on default MX for years with no issues)

Same here as Huckleberry Finn. I run bleachbit to clean up every few days as user. I never see any thing like missing panels or ghosting menus.
I see you are running a KDE desktop, that is different than my stock xfce. Maybe it is something with KDE?
I have rarely run bleachbit as root (kind of scared it may mess up my system). But on those few occasions, I noted no weird behavior or problems.

:) I use it twice everyday either as root and user.
I had also tried on KDE (that was installed by me on default MX 19 as a DE from MXPI ).. no issues .

jimm,
OK, I think the next step is what Huckleberry Finn wrote, look at the check list and see or copy to the forum what things are being deleted.
Either post your selections, or maybe try unchecking half at a time, to do a binary search and see which deletion is causing a problem for your system. For example if you are cleaning memory or something that the menus or panels depend on, it glitches. If you turn off half, and the other causes the problem, then divide that half in half until you find the culprit.
If you eliminate that item, maybe it will work as intended.
Or you could try a purge and reinstall for bleachbit, maybe something corrupted?

It could also help if we knew what version of BB you're using.

Stevo,
Yup, could be a factor. I noticed an appearance change to BB maybe a month ago...the background changed from white to black. Must have been a synaptic upgrade that I did not note. I can check tonight once in front of the MX machines...

Dark mode is a setting/checkbox in Preferences that was checked by default.entropyfoe wrote: Tue Oct 13, 2020 3:51 pm I noticed an appearance change to BB maybe a month ago...the background changed from white to black. Note to self and others: SysVinit is a good option. However if you run into problems try with systemd first. This applies to AppImages, Flatpaks, GitHub packages and even some Debian packages.
Re: odd effects running bleachbit
Appearance changed a bit with 4.x , currently 4.1.0 . On mine (dark theme - Xfce) it's still dark. Only it began using its own title bar. (Meanwhile, even if I uncheck the dark theme in it's settings it stays so, due to xfce theme)

Re: odd effects running bleachbit
It used to be a white background, and it changed. I never un-checked any boxes or made an intentional change, so I assumed it was some upgraded version.
I will look for the check box in preferences, as I do prefer the white background, just what I got used to I guess. Thanks for the tip.
