KMail - Cannot send

#1 Post by texneus »

Does anyone have KMail working (specifically with a verizon/aol email account if it matters)? I can receive emails but it will not send them.

The error I keep getting "Failed to transport Message. The TLS/SSL connection has been closed" when sending emails.

I've got emails working everywhere else, just not in KMail. There are lots of hits searching for this error but most of the instances are quite old and solutions I've found cannot be applied.

This version of kmail has all sorts of issues, I would wait for an update and use thunderbird.

Drat, too bad. From what I've seen so far Kmail looks promising. I've used Thunderbird for some time and like it less and less as it's focus on the basics seems to have strayed.

I thought kmail would be perfect for my needs, but not at this moment. TBird has a major upgrade out, though they haven't sent it to the repositories yet. Built in encryption, new dark theme, and more.

This has been a recurrent bug between kmail versions and most of the times solved by some update till a newer update kreaks it again and the story repats itself over and over. I use claws-mail; easier, simpler and never fails, at least that's been my experience with it so far.

Last chance for kmail for me. I'm posting just to update this thread that I just installed MX-19 KDE and after spending most of yesterday trying to get it to send mail can share that this problem has not gone away. It was a clean install on new partitions and I didn't attempt to import anything only set up pop and stmp accounts. I looked through all of the links listed above and inspected, reinstalled and otherwise tweaked and experimented, all to no avail. Unless someone has a bullet proof suggestion to offer I'm going to let 20 years of contacts, calendars, and archives go and spend my time trying to figure out how to import what is worth saving into something new. Any thoughts welcome. Does anyone have an explanation for how developers with so much experience and history can keep putting out major packages with such fundamental and persistent problems?

@whbr Not responsive to your problem, but you have posted in the official MX KDE Release. Kmail is not installed by default in that release. Thunderbird is the email client. Are you using MX KDE or have added KDE by some other means to MX? Or have you installed Kmail to MX KDE?

Was this directed toward MX devs or toward KDE devs themselves?

If MX: words like these are not likely to gain you more help.
If KDE: ask over on their forums, they are the devs, we don't know about that.

No, certainly not you all, but if you look at threads over this issue on kde and other distro boards this problem has been around in various forms in various upgrades for years. I've had some issues installing kmail in the past but nothing like my current frustration. This has been addressed on kde boards and the help given wasn't that helpful for me. I could put it up again but am really looking now to cut my losses. I will say that I poked around the akonadi agents and their configs and what I found was discouraging. For example the ~/.config/akonadi/agent_config_akonadi_maildispatcher_agent file seems not to exist and I'm not sure how to make it exist or where it lives if its not where I would expect it to be. I considered trying to start over up to and including the whole mx distro. I don't know how to disentangle akonadi from the rest of KDE and am skeptical that I if I could that I wouldn't end up back where I am. I was hoping that perhaps someone else may have encountered something similar or could reassure me that a full start over would have a chance of succeeding or point to specific packages that might be missing or problematic.
