OK, those that have installed it from test--how's it working?

It's not something I use personally, but the version in Test installed and launched without issue.

If I get a response from the FB member who reported it (not a given!) I will post here.

I am looking into this as a user because I use it on all my machines. Most of them are 18.3 so I didn't get this upgrade, but I have two 19.3 machines where the update is coming through. Whatever happened with the latest upgrade, it blew away my Dockbarx settings (no more icons on the taskbar that were working fine previously) and I am unable to get it running again.

This just happened so I am still investigating but I suspect that whatever is going on may cause problems for Dockbarx users who accept the upgrade.

As best I can tell at the moment, both the preferences applet and the settings to add the applet to the xfce taskbar are working, but accepting the settings on the plugin for the taskbar don't do anything - the applet does not appear in the xfce taskbar at all.

Just in case I am not being clear, the issue is with the XFCE panel integration. I am not sure if there is an issue with standalone Dockbarx panels are not, as I do not use those.

I think I saw that Stevo was doing an update since when I packaged it last, I didn't have time to look at it. But I can when I find some time.

Honestly, dockbarx was a mess, so I personally stopped using it. the newer GTK3 versions may have become more stable, but I didn't have time to jump around 9 different GitHub repos and read things for 30hrs to find out.

If its still in Test Repo it won't come as an update. IF timkb4cq already moved it that is a different story.

I still have the old version to roll back to if timkb4cq still doesn't have a copy.

I'll do what I can to help sort this out, but for the moment I am preparing to restore from a snapshot to get back working in the meantime. I saw the forum post at Facebook but I didn't read close enough to see why something new was being moved to the main repo. I do see that the Dockbarx Preference panel has changed, and it now starts with a "Dock Applets" tab divided between "Applets in Use" and "Available Applets" which, it seems to me, was not present in prior versions before this update.

In this older thread Swamprabbit pointed out that the only real issue in using the old version code was that it was doing a version check, and after bypassing that I've had no issues ever since - until today when I ran an update:

The XFCE4-panel < 4.13 check is in the "Control" file of the .deb.
The quick and dirty way to get it to install is you unpack the .deb for xfce-dockbarx-plugin (dpkg-deb -R), remove that "xfce-panel << 4.13", then repack the .deb (dpkg-deb -b) and it should work.

EDIT: In terms of "not sure what I can do next" I don't see a way to run a program from terminal that would give me any feedback as to what the problem might be. Both the preference program and the xfce plugin applet appear to run as expected and they don't give any feedback as to an error.

I don't think any of that was needed anymore, we "had" a working dockbarx and xfce-plugin, although it was the gtk2 variant.

I see Stevo updated what looks to be the dockbarx gtk3 beta version for both MX-17/18 and MX-19.
But we still have the old panel-plugin, which probably doesn't work with that version of dockbarx.

Most people don't want the whole dockbarx, they just want the panel plugin, but it relies on it.
So might be worth at least keeping the gtk2 variant available, but ensuring the the name separates which one it is.

If no one else gets to it... I'll take a look in the next few days. I have other things pressing that need worked on right now.

Ok after deleting through synaptic the updated versions (the black list above), and reinstalling the debs which I had saved when I first installed dockbarx after my Mx19 upgrade last year, I am back to fully working again. Now is a good time for me to explain to myself why I never took the time to set up Timeshift. Doing that now.

Not sure how many others are in my position but uninstalling and reinstalling the old versions (if you have them) should work. I guess I also need to think about "locking" these debs in synaptic so they don't get written over again.

docbarx 0.93 (mx19) really shouldn't have been moved to main with python-gconf (mx19) still in Test.
python-gconf for mx19 is a bit of a hack, building a small part of the gnome-python package that had been removed from debian buster because parts of it were incompatible with gnome3.

OTOH, I jumped the gun yesterday moving the (installable!) gtk3 dockbarx_1.0_beta+git2020712 without also building the gtk3 xfce4-dockbarx-plugin for it.
That's now been remedied.
Dockbarx_0.93 will be back in the Test repo shortly from which it, too will be installable.
