Request: Touchpad Indicator 2.2.1

#1 Post by JayM »

The version of Touchpad Indicator that comes with MX (19.2 AHS in my case but it's the same version in MX-18.3), 1.1.0-1, won't disable my touchpad when a mouse is connected. I've found that the newest version works though. See viewtopic.php?f=108&t=59053.

There's a PPA at https://launchpad.net/~atareao/+archive/ubuntu/atareao containing the files listed below, dated 2020-05-28. I didn't add the PPA, I downloaded the .deb file and installed it from Thunar. It seems to work fine in MX. I'd like to request that it be updated in both MX 19 and 18. (Actually, added to theTest Repo for now, most likely, to make sure it doesn't break compatibility with older hardware or introduce any new bugs. )

Code: Select all

Package files

    touchpad-indicator_2.2.1-0extras19.04.0.dsc (1.2 KiB)
    touchpad-indicator_2.2.1-0extras19.04.0.tar.xz (410.5 KiB)
    touchpad-indicator_2.2.1-0extras19.04.0_all.deb (374.0 KiB)

Thanks for making this request, Jay! And thanks to Stevo for packaging touchpad-indicator 2.2.1 for MX 19 Test Repo. It works well on my Lenovo Touchpad X250 (2015 hardware) running kernel 4.19.

OK--seems like we should move it to main, despite the upgrade seeming to erase the Preferences.

Maybe someone could add an announcement in MX News and Announcements about the upgraded Touchpad Indicator needing to be configured again?

I don’t have a touchpad on my system (desktop), is there any reason why the Live USB installed the touchpad-indicator package?

Code: Select all

Calculating upgrade... Done
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  python3-evdev python3-xlib
The following packages will be upgraded:
  touchpad-indicator
Can I just remove it? Is this some weird naming thing, and it’s the mouse driver?

Thanks,
Michael

Hmmm, maybe I should open a new thread, what got auto-installed for laptops that can be removed for desktops? Is there already a topic about that?
