Photo options on MX

I am not even sure what I am attempting to ask so please bear with me: I want to use a green board/ green screen to photograph some of my wood working in front of a green board/ screen in order to manipulate the photos and make them appear as though they are on different backgrounds. Folks that do photography will know what I am trying to say. Are there any programs/ software options to accomplish this in MX linux?

Gimp might be an option but, it's been awhile since I played with it and I never did get very good at photo manipulation with it. Any straight forward options for what I want to do?

I know what you're talking about, but don't know the answer. Luckily, other people do: web search on "linux green screen software" shows a lot of interesting videos and texts, if you haven't looked at that yet.

If its Photography you don't really need a green screen per-say, any color will do as long as its all the same color.
The key is to have lots off contrast between the subject and the background, thus making it easier to remove it from its background in a photo manipulation program, pretty sure Gimp can do this.

Yes Jerry3904 green screen finds chroma key. antechdesigns is right about contrast, to include an "opposite" color of the subject, lots of light, no shadow on background, consistent color for the magic edge finder to detect constraint. So a background color for the opposite of wood color would be?
Software-wise IIRC magic-pink had a switch to make the alpha transparent. It means pasting the image onto background possible instead of mechanism to change the surrounding background by color identification. Is there still such a switch anywhere that makes magic pink into clear?
It is very difficult to show a flaw even when you try to do that.
A lot of light and not too many pixels. Your woodworking will look great.

.+ i just read imagemagick docs for instance say try the bucket flood fill method on background, first, to see if that is satisfactory control. Your background screen in photo idea fits with that offer.

If you don't currently use any photo editing software, it would be worth at least looking at Photopea. It's an online editor that is as close to Photoshop as you are likely to get for free. (Note it does have ads down the right-hand side; you can mentally filter these out for casual use.) It has tools to remove backgrounds, and create transparent ones, so you can then fill them with whatever you want.

It has a big user base, with lots of tutorials, and one advantage is that a lot of the methods and terminology are the same as Photoshop, so transitioning to that or Photoshop Elements later would be easy.

I am reasonably experienced with Photoshop, but for speed I often use Photopea for quick edits.

I've used Photoshop for almost 20 years...and it was the software that held me back from switching to Linux. But I've have switched and am learning GIMP and will say that it seems very capable. It has a color selector tool just like Photoshop, that could be used to select and delete out a solid color background. It has layers like Photoshop that could be use to save and experiment with replacement backgrounds.
