Re: MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
I attempted to read the entire thread, but ... well, it is 26 pages long.
Anyway, because I wasn't able to read the entire thread, I don't know if this has been posted or not. But, I thought this might be of interest.
I got the attached output when installing the nVidia driver using the wonder MX supplied tool.
-->EDIT TO ADD: TL;DR - I think this is the same "canberra-gtk-module" issue as noted below, but as I'm not even close to being a Linux dev, I have no real idea. Note that I do have available to me (but is not installed) libcanberra-gtk3-module.
As one can see from my QSI, the nVidia driver(s) did install:

Re: MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
My apologies, it probably doesn't show in MXPI because you have to uncheck the "Hide library and developer packages" in the lower right of screen.Gerson wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 4:22 pm Look for the package libcanberra-gtk-module in MXIP and it is neither in stable nor in the test repository. can you also check for libcanberra-gtk3-module?
Notice the 3 in the name.
I believe it is related a GTK3 issue, but don't know where or what yet.

I don't know if this is a thing to be concerned about but ....
I can (and have) run the KDE Partition Manager directly from the menu and modify/delete/create partitions and the partition table of any device attached to the computer WITHOUT having to first enter a password to elevate privileges.
When I install and run gparted, it does (as I think it should) prompt me for the appropriate password before it will finish loading.

Most Kde tools do it that way and only ask for a password before the action is performed.srq2625 wrote: Thu Jul 16, 2020 5:19 pm I don't know if this is a thing to be concerned about but ....

Re: MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
Hi All,
Running the latest MX Beta. 2 Oddities / questions:
First, I've set the disable mouse while typing to - almost anything. I think it's now set at 500 ms. But STILL often my cursor ends up somewhere else and I'm typing where I don't intend to, while actively typing (ie it's not like I pause - just right in the middle of a sentence I see my typing is now in like a previous paragraph. I'm pretty sure I may be accidentally hitting the touchpad - it's a laptop. Any other setting I'm missing?
Second is DNS - I have MX on a LAN with a few other Windows machines. From each machine, I can ping the local name - IE my desktop is called DESKTOP, I have a NUC called NUC, etc. From desktop, I can PING NUC and it resolves - to NUC.local. On the MX (laptop), I can't ping / resolve without adding .local. Is there a way to force this in for local machines?
My /etc/resolv.conf has
nameserver 192.168.1.1 (this is correct)
search local mx.local
I've tried removing mx.local from the resolv.conf, but as soon as I reboot, it's back.
Any suggestions / hints?
Thanks!

Re: MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
Half a second seems too short a time to me to keep the pad disabled while typing, unless you never stop typing for even half a second.

I have done all the steps indicated, this application in XFCE always worked well but now in MX-KDE it doesn't show the graphics.
