MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
Re: MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
I love that MX will have a supported KDE spin. I have been using MX with the repo KDE desktop for months and love it. But it uses about 800mb on idle whereas the Beta is using around 500 +/-. I am running the Beta on an old Thinkpad E520 i3 laptop with a lexar 128gb SSD. So nothing exciting for the test drive.
Here are the issues I have encountered in the last few days:
-Kwin always fails on boot.
-When adding Ksysgard, MX Tools and Info center to the panel only multiple failed URLs were created the first time or two. I deleted these and after some tinkering (and maybe the last update?) the "add to panel" function seems to be working better.
-Sound defaults to Dummy Audio, even after being changed to internal analogue device. I could get speaker output yesterday, but not today. No sound at all. Serious issue.
-I upgraded the Libreoffice to 6.4.5.2 (the flatpack version which includes, among others, the breeze theme unlike the Debian backport version). Flatpack would not install the full Libreoffice suite alongside the original but instead attempted to merge them resulting in a hybrid of bits of each version. When I deleted the Libreoffice 6.1 and rebooted, this did resolve itself, leaving a full suite of 6.4.5.2. It was easily enough resolved, but I would not wish the experience on a newcomer to MX Linux.
-My last point is really minor. The splash screen flashing on and off during shut down is weirdly disturbing.
I hope you don't mind if I throw in a repo wish. If the MX basic repository includes the most recent stable Libreoffice, could it please include the whole set of themes? I hate Tango, Colibre is okay, but I far prefer Breeze. It is easy enough for me to install a Flatpack or download direct from The Document Foundation, but it would be far easier, especially for a newbie to Linux with a large enough learning curve. And I would love to see MX as one of those top new user referrals like Mint or Ubuntu.

Well, enough complaints for today. Did I mention that I love what you are doing? KDE on MX is absolutely awesome! Thank You so much for creating this awesome distro. With recent "Snappy" developments (which I will not discuss further) it is very likely MX will become my primary production OS! Thanks again!

Re: MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
Pls provide your Quick System Info for some context on the issues you have encountered. You are using an old ThinkPad, perhaps the sound card might have some bearing on your sounds issues.
I've not had issues adding MX tools and other apps to panel (nor using pin to taskbar).

Re: MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
I'm having problems with small freezes having only Vivaldi open with 4 tabs, Telegram and TextMaker. Sometimes it recovers by itself, in less than a minute, in other times it closes everything and leaves a black screen, I have to turn it off with the button and in other occasions it closes and returns me to the Login screen.

I know I might be getting ahead of things but will we be able to get newer releases of KDE in the Test Repo in the future?
Like 5.19 or 5.20? Since we are 5.14.

MX KDE is the best thus far!
It's probably the longest i have ever run a Linux OS and as beta, it hasn't crashed a single time from day one!
Kudos to the MX team!!

Re: MX-19.2 KDE Beta 1 feedback thread
That didn't work for me. There appears to be some bug in that applet and it won't ask and accept a password. Hopefully that applet can be disabled and the MX Date&Time app can be run in it's place.Sparky wrote: Mon Jul 13, 2020 10:46 amto change the time in KDE, right click on the time icon and select congigure digital clock, there you will find a few things you can change.Adrian wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 11:43 pmYeah, we'd like to fix that, it would be great if somebody could point us to a fix or something, it's hard to believe that KDE is broken like that in Buster...seaken64 wrote: Sun Jul 12, 2020 11:11 pm @d_o - thank you. I missed that app. It did ask me for the password when I launched it. I guess I was trying to learn the KDE way.

That's funny. I was just expressing my problem here about the untimely freezing and shutting down so that everything now works normally.
