Problem with Graphics Card

#1 Post by rmr »

Upon issuing first upgrade, I am getting such warnings. I think that MX doesn't have repositories for this AMD graphics. And I don't have a clue what to do or if this is a problem.

Terminal output after first apt-get upgrade

This is the firmware for the navi 12 and arcturus GPUs from AMD that are not out yet.
You are running a very new kernel which has the entries for that new firmware, so it can try loading them on amdgpu capable graphics cards, but the actual firmware hasn't been released.

So those aren't error messages, just informational warnings, useful for troubleshooting when those graphics cards become available.

Have you tried running this machine on a standard MX 64bit, rather than the AHS version first?

Hello tascoast,

I have got similar message on Standard x64 iso, which is the reason I installed AHS version with a hope that it might work. A google search with the above warning lines got me into an article which asks me to git clone a repo and use the firmware files. However I am not keen on doing that right now.

Hello timkb4cq,

So if I want to run graphics-card intensive tasks, can I do so or will I get into some bottlenecks?
I have tried with Standard (Non-AHS) system and I faced similar issue.

The new firmwares would not be loaded by your card if they were available since yours uses firmware that has been around for 4 years now.

I couldn't find your amd card listed among those that support the amdgpu driver so you are running the correct driver already. It should operate normally.

Thanks for the help timkb4cq.

According to Manufacturer, My PC has "AMD Radeon™ 520 Graphics (2 GB DDR3 dedicated)"

But when running Graphics stress test, Intel's Integrated graphics kicks in. Is there any way to force Dedicated graphics to do the job?
I had used GpuTest from www.geeks3d.com

Read the hybrid graphics section here:
https://wiki.debian.org/AtiHowTo

It also gives directions on how to try to get your card to use the amdgpu driver if you still have trouble.

Related to this, I have a RX 6800 XT running MX19.4 AHS. Running sudo update-initramfs -u, I see:

Should I go and get these firmware files?
