That can't be a windows clone. Not near enough icons on the desktop. Most of the windows users I know have an icon of every file and application they every had on their desktop. I don't think they are aware that there is a menu.
I was a windows user with less icons on the desktop, at least on my last Windows-only times :)

But yeah, usually installers have the options to leave their icon on the desktop checked by default and sometimes there's no way you can disable that (looking at you, Skype and Foobar2000). My previous notebook used to have half of the screen covered in icons until I decided to use the start menu instead and the task bar. Afterwards I had to struggle all the time to delete the icons on the desktop after every one of the days I reserved for upgrading stuff (yea, I used to keep one of the weekend days to upgrade all the programs I had because I was trying everything out, so I kept going to the projects' websites to see if there's anything new for pretty much a full day). :)

Now my desktop is just like a manually curated temp folder: I download stuff that goes straight there and I then take my time when I can to put everything in the appropriate folders.
Acer Aspire One D260
Lately got a Lenovo V110-15ISK too
